Re: The couch thread
FWIK, affiliates pay $1000/yr in fees. In exchange, they get the right to use the @fit name as part of their facility. I believe the lead trainer or owner must be a Level 1 trainer in order to open. From what I also know, there is no oversight from HQ, or @fit, Inc., as to the quality of the brand. If there are significant complaints about the quality of the instruction, there might be an intervention, but I doubt it. The recent "Rhabdo" litigation found HQ siding with the plaintiff (you read that right) and leaving the affiliate twisting in the wind, even though it was following HQ protocols and the mainpage WOD.
It's all very curious. If I was to open a Gold's Gym, you bet your ass I'm paying franchise fees and getting support from their "HQ." I'm sure they don't have a Dave Castro.

@fit seems to have a handful.

9.2. What is the cost of affiliaton?
As of 7 January 2009, affiliation costs $2000 annually.

I've been waiting to see his follow-up to that, but he's posted nil on the Performance Menu boards and on his affiliates website since that comment. It seems the rather weak criticism he got in response to that post was enough to make him shut-up.CultBuster wrote:Fucking Leo S.Gregg should beat his bitch ass just to warm up.Leo S

By the way if they didn't let you know - I'm the person who's responsible for writing this article. Makes me feel all warm & fuzzy inside.
"Suffice to say, I love CrossFit and I love the community, which is why I have remained involved for almost six years, despite receiving similar treatment the entire time while happily being used (without compensation) for coaching at certifications and various other duties, and continued attempts to shut down my business and discredit me."
That was very weak, Greg. Very weak.
I don't ever remember Leo being such a douche.
Re: The couch thread
It started with ''All EVERYONE need is the WOD''...
now, you need all those certs....
CrossFit Level I
CrossFit Level II
CrossFit Coaches Prep Course
CrossFit Kids
Basic Barbell
CrossFit Football
Gymnastics
Kettlebell
Mobility and Recovery (never heard of this one before)
Nutrition
Olympic Lifting
Powerlifting
Rowing Foundations
Endurance
Hard to bash on Ducane's marketing when you know Couch.

I spoke with the attorney who represented Mimms (and got $300k for his troubles). Unfortunately Glassman's depo was never taken in that case so no transcript was available.

Funny, since Glassman's stance on recovery and regeneration was basically "If you can't recover, you're in shit condition and you need to STFU and work harder."

Re: The couch thread
Apparently it catches up with even the elitest-ly fit @Fers as well. I have it on good word that the @F Gaymes champ has been feeling less-than-stellar ever since the Gaymes...note my previous post on him waking up in pools of cold sweat halfway through the weekend event...those who choose to use the term say he is suffering from signs of adrenal fatigue / hypoadrenia (start a new topic if you want a tangent on that one!).Shafpocalypse Now wrote:Funny, since Glassman's stance on recovery and regeneration was basically "If you can't recover, you're in shit condition and you need to STFU and work harder."

Re: The couch thread
That's always been one of my biggest criticisms of @F.
If the best athletes in the world don't compete every day, then how the fuck can you expect a buffed up soccer mom or a middle management type on 400 mg of test a week to do so?
Even in research on elite military special forces, after so much they broke down.
In the WOD, every day is max out competition day. While this initially addresses the intensity issues most people have (i.e. most people don't train hard enough) sooner or later shit will break down.

Re: The couch thread
Is castro just another crossfit lackey, or could he have possibly bought in in some significant way?
Someone mentioned he hosts the gaymes on some property, so he has some resources.
I mean other than those pictures of cooch with teh goats?
Is the cooch beholden to the asstro or is asstro just OT VIII?

All I know is this...Castro (or his family) own the "ranch" property where the Gaymes have always been hosted.Joe wrote:Is castro just another crossfit lackey, or could he have possibly bought in in some significant way?

We plan on remaining an affiliate so our folks can compete in the games (although how fair of treatment they will get at the CASTRO FAMILY RANCH will be interesting to see).

Re: The couch thread
Which is likely why the people that win the games don't follow the mainpage WOD. Wasn't one of them doing 2-on, 1-off? And one other thing is that real athletes tend to rest a loooooong time after PRs, even breaking with scheduled training to recover. CFers just keep pouring it on, PR after PR until the body yells "Uncle!"Shafpocalypse Now wrote:That's always been one of my biggest criticisms of @F.

Let's get on this...
Second, there IS a discussion going on on the Affiliate Page on the Message Board. You have to be an Affiliate to log on, which is reasonable. That they would want to confine the discussion to Affiliates makes perfect sense. Opinions are most valuable when rendered by those with an ACTUAL stake in the outcome.
I have not seen the Facebook comment Greg Glassman made, because, unlike your blog, Facebook is not a public forum. It is a private forum. I cannot see what comments were made on Lisa Lugo’s page because I don’t know Lisa Lugo. If he passed a comment through Lisa, it was intended only for her and whoever her Facebook friends are (I’m guessing not more than a few hundred people at most).

Re: The couch thread
More like Barry Cooper at his rambling best.
Say what you like, but Cooper's prose is brilliant: Joyce Carroll Oates' stream of consciousness, Balzac's absurdity, and Thompson's alcohol and chemical fueled dementia. All this plus use of non-traditional media. The guy is a literary treasure and a cultural icon.
With Cooper and Castro's ability to carry the torch, the reality is that Couch is almost entirely a secondary charcter in the @fit story.

Ah, so that's why they named the second mascot "Uncle" Rhabdo! It never made much sense to me why one was a clown and the other was just an uncle, despite the fact they both look like clowns.JohnnyBadAss wrote:CFers just keep pouring it on, PR after PR until the body yells "Uncle!"
My apologies for the use of wit over hate. My time off from here seems to have let whatever hate I did have dwindle. Now it seems to be just amusement.

Not sure why the earlier thread was closed - was something wrong?
Anyway, just a quick update - Dr Barry Sears will be the presenter for the nutritional certification on December 5th.
Not trying to stir anything up, just making sure anyone going to it is up to date with latest info for the weekend.
