Yes, toes, knees and, presumably hips, are pointing in the same direction.

Re: Undulating Periodisation

Some of the discussion above makes me want to add this to the thread. We use hallmark lifts to gauge our progress. Since a true 100% effort is weightlifting is so demanding, we have to use other ways to estimate and predict what we can do, and to give the athlete confidence when we do do the true 10...

Re: Undulating Periodisation

I'll address what I do, well, one of the things we do in the gym. We use what I would truthfully call undulating periodization. But we often apply that in blocks. Our beginning lifters, say, 3-6 months into weightlifting, sports performance, or powerlifting get a very simple program. Once someone ha...

I use inclines and push presses to build upper body strength for our weightlifter and throwers. We flat bench, but most pressing time is spent on inclines or push press.

Last winter I randomly got a package from them addressed to me. I figured my wife had ordered something for my birthday and I opened it up. Inside were a bunch of mini bands and some wrist wraps with an invoice to a woman in Tennessee. I called them and asked how to send it back; they asked if I was...

Re: Adductors

I see adductor issues often in my weightlifters. In fact, I think it's one of the most significant areas I need to fix. but it's not just the adductors, it's whole pelvis and hamstrings. But with you I would bet it's the lower abs, too. Just because. Do you have an anterior pelvic tilt?

Re: Like a dragon's hoard

On the Jerk Boxes, I don't find them necessary anymore. I have had sets in the past, and they were sort of useful, but they're such a pain in the ass to adjust and move that we just dump weight now. If I had more room, and I could dedicate a platform only to them, I might get them again. But as a pi...

Re: Speak to me please of the esoteric mysteries of the glute ham raise

Getting people to do either glute ham raise or an RDL correctly is an investment in time that always pays off. Them, banded good mornings, and leg curls on a stability ball (for those really bad with the GHR) are my go to for hamstring development and strength. As for the machines, I got a free top ...

Re: Training Theory

On high volume squatting: We squat every day we train. basic breakdown is 2 front/ 2 back, though we often replace a lighter squat day with some single leg work or side lunges if we get people for only three to four sessions a week. 90% + two days a week, one front, one back, although we do two day...

Which goals have you chased single mindedly for 5 or more years? How successful were you at implementing the platitudes above in years 5 and beyond? Gah.. I'll jump to the punchline..all the stuff you're describing works for low to mid level intermediates...not for people actually working the goal....

I think it's a good resource for basic to intermediate stuff, especially for my powerlifters. It's a lot off basic stuff, but it's sound, basic advice. I avoid the forums, and I read the weightlfiting shit for a different perspective, but for a true intermediate level lifter it's good shit. The whol...

Re: Unpacking Jack's toolbox.

Couple thoughts/queries. Do you think that with raw work, given that the heavy weights even with wraps (which are not more than 50#, over my belt/sleeve max ) should be more or less variable than they are with gear? With supportive gear you get big swings between the heavy (geared day) and RM (raw ...

Re: ACL Injuries

I tore my ACL when I was 16 and, at the time, I was the third athlete at my high school in three years to have a tear. That was 1990, so it was a while ago. Each one of my cousins tore their ACLs playing soccer in the 2000s, though. For me, the issue was a very weak back and hamstrings. For them, it...
