I predicted this...

A while back, when the homosexual marriage laws were being voted out of every state legislature, and the globo-homos realized they needed the (((Supreme Court))) to make things right, I predicted that the next front of leftist-liberalism would be the pedo-rights movement, I was ridiculed and shouted...

Re: gun control

One of the things that most fascinated me about the homosexual marriage debate was just how quickly a tiny group of "opinion formers" could get vast swathes of the western world to accept men marrying other men as not just OK and reasonable, but somewhat inevitable. The "opinion formers" are good at...

serious question: what's the difference between stoic practice and buddhist practice?
Serious answer: neither one of them is a Christian practice, which is of critical importance to the post-Christian Man.

What do you think the odds are that fight actually happens before 2020?
Depends on either Fury's shrink and/or his coke dealer. Doesn't look promising either way.

Does this mean that the US is enforcing the Logan Act now? That could have some interesting implications...

Although, given that the Act has never been used to successfully prosecute anyone, it'd seem strange to start now.

Re: Willpower depletion debunked

Back to the boring topic: Is Consciousness Just An Illusion? Explaining this phenomenon, he and his colleagues posit that our thoughts are largely involuntary, occurring as a kind of reflex reaction to external stimuli, over which we have no “conscious” control. In other words, it is within the dom...

If you don't think a squirrel has free will then stop with your "common sense" arguments and toss in some science. That is the worst null hypothesis I've seen. Re: Willpower depletion debunked

Here's a paper that claims Libet failed to prove (or that he even disproved) his own hypothesis:

http://www.ucl.ac.uk/~uctytho/libet2.htm

If nothing else it goes to show how difficult it is to formulate good experiments on this subject.

They're neither "unpredictable and untraceable" when you've stated them in a prior hypothesis; whether they're down to chance or not is precisely why you assign a p-value and run your experiments.

Re: Willpower depletion debunked

From an entropic perspective, if I ran an experiment where I predict that I will do something very specific at a certain point in the future, and I do it, the chances of that thing happening randomly, and not because I choose to do it, is very small. So, the null hypothesis here is: I have free-will...

Re: Willpower depletion debunked

For those of you who're more well-read on this subject, I'd be interested in getting an answer to the question I posed earlier: -what is/are the specific hypothesis/hypotheses being tested in the actual experiments on free-will? There has to be some proposition that is being examined. How do the sci...

Re: Willpower depletion debunked

This isn't some 101 level argument about "proving" anything. LOL, I never said it was. I actually went out of my way to say that any attempt to do such a thing "is just funny". But I'm not the one who's taking the time to design and conduct experiments to challenge the notion of free-will, am I? So...
