Re: I'm obessed about learning languages

Here's one tip that I don't think anyone mentioned: watch TV and/or movies in French. There is a special box that allows you access to many different channels in French (requires subscription). I find that just watching the news every day helps. Or you can simply watch French films and try to avoid ...

Re: I'm obessed about learning languages

Here's my formula for learning French: -Marry French woman. -Have child. -Spend ~20 yrs hearing her speak French to the kid. -Spend ~20 yrs listening to her complain and tell you what an ass you are. -Spend ~20 yrs going to functions w/ only French people. -Spend ~20 yrs interacting w/ her family in...

Re: Wrists buckle on Bench

Bending the bar: this is good. And straps. These are the type of cues I was looking for.
And Holland O: it may be cancer. I assume you want to do the DRE? No thanks. I have a Dr. already.

Re: Wrists buckle on Bench

are you consciously squeezing the bar, and engaging the forearms, when benching? I assume so. This is odd. Yes. Imagine throwing a heavy medicine ball to someone. You'd do basically a bench press like maneuver as you push it away, and just as you let it go, your hands/wrists flex to give it a bit o...

Re: Wrists buckle on Bench

I don't wear straps. Rather than going limp, it's as if the forearm flexors are activated and then the wrists straighten to the point of no return.
BTW: I always use a thumbs around the bar grip.

Wrists buckle on Bench

A few months ago I was warming up on the bench w/ 225#, when both of my wrists buckled (flexed), dropping the bar on my chest. I lift at home in a rack, but due to the spacing of the holes, the pins in the bottom position put the bar a couple of inches below the level of my chest. I'd never worried ...

Re: Old Man Training

56 here. The most important thing for me is to ignore the concept of a 7 day week. I train when I feel like I'm ready to. There's no pussy factor when I just don't feel up to it. And when things feel really heavy I drop down and do some reps; no shame. Then I'll take week or so and go easy and build...

Re: Amazon fire stick

So I've been using this thing (firestick + kodi) for a few days, and the quality is very spotty. There are times when everything comes in very clearly (daytime usually), without delay, but in the evening (when usage is probably high) I can't get anything. If I can get a stream to load at all, it's v...

Did you get a jailbroken one? I just ordered one on Ebay for about $60. From what I understand you can get first run everything on it.

Ibex is having a one day sale on several products. Re: Come out Come Out you Junkies

Norco was great for pain; had a fracture a few years ago that felt wonderful after a 10/325. Never did anything recreationally for me. Coke a few times, as well as psychedelics as a youngster. The only one of those I'd want to try now would be shrooms. Anybody have a contact? Weed is a nice lo-cal a...

Re: Statins - Just Gimme Some Truth!

They're generally pretty well tolerated. The questions are: what other co-factors do you have? (HTN, DM, etc) How high are your numbers? If the TC is 220, and you have no other factors, then no need. But if you're at 400 and you're also diabetic, well, then, get popping.

Re: learning a language

To really learn a language, try this: First, marry someone who is a native speaker of that language, and agree that each parent should speak their own language EXCLUSIVELY to any kids you have. Next, listen. Then, watch movies and TV shows in that language. Also, go to many social engagements where ...

Highly recommended. Amazon Prime series of 10 episodes (so far). Beautiful locations, plenty of extreme violence, plot twists, with a smattering of boobs.

Re: AMRAP sets in strength programs

I frequently rep out (with the same wt) on the last set, but avoid failure, as an auto-reg.
-2+ reps over prescribed: add wt next time.
-<prescribed: back off.
Has worked pretty well.

How did I live without it?

Re: Power Bar thread

Change of plan. The site on Ebay offers free shipping, and it arrives on 9/16. Xathlete charges shipping, and the price difference is ~$20, in order to wait 5-6 weeks. I'll spend the 20 and have it next week. Hopefully.

Re: Power Bar thread

I was already leaning towards the Buddy Capps TPB; looks very nice. It's good to see some glowing reviews. $300 on eBay, $239 @ Xathlete. I think I can wait a few weeks and save $60.
I'll post my impressions when it arrives.
