Re: Would someone explain why the stock market is soaring when we are facing a devasting depression

I felt like something funny was about to happen with the coronavirus stuff hitting in Feb so I moved everything to bonds. Then I moved it all back to stocks a few weeks later as it seemed like things had tanked. This is completely uncharacteristic of me as I usually don't move things around. Well, i...

There are quite a few Chinese folks at work. Makes me wonder what the likelihood is that it'll spring up there at some point.

Yeah, it sucks. He'd been sick for a while now. The band had called it quits a few years ago as Neil could no longer play to his satisfaction. Rush is one of the bands I listen to pretty much every day.

Re: Western world (and women sport) are doomed

A lady at work does competitive fencing and there's a trans woman in her division. The trans woman beats up all the natural ladies and "wins". It's not a skill thing, they are just being overpowered. I just saw a headline of something similar happening in ladies track cycling. A natural wo...

Re: WTF?! Ric Ocasek died?

First music I ever bought was the single for Shake It Up. I still hear their music most days (really enjoying Spotify). The Cars were a great band and Ric was a great songwriter/member of the band.

Re: Sleep Paralysis...

I'll check out the vid. I think all of my 'nightmares' involve being unable to move or speak. I apparently make pitiful whiny noises that wake my wife up and then she wakes me up. I had a similar sensation in an MRI machine, I think a combination of being strapped in (paralyzed), blind (can't wear g...

Agreed. I've seen all the cartoon episodes, have a book or two, and watched the few episodes with Patrick Warburton (which I was disappointed didn't stay on the air). I'm a fan of stupid humor.

Re: Lifehack your parents

I will just say that you need to do what you can to keep your parents active, both physically and mentally, as much as possible. Once the mind goes, e.g., you're dealing with something like dementia, it's pretty much game over. My Mom was diagnosed with dementia over a year ago (I just found out, al...

Re: Do you dance?

The first rite of the Five Tibetan Rites would have me falling on the floor. I don't know what you'd call my issue but I've had severe bouts of vertigo (like, move my head a mm and start projectile vomiting) and generally have poor balance, both of which seem to run in members of my Mom's side of th...

The wrist heart rate monitors work well depending on your skin tone, arm hair, and such as they use light shone through your skin. Being of mainly scottish/northern euro heritage they work great for me.

Re: Hobbies and such

Yeah, long story, but my wife has a horse. Talk about a time suck. Thank God the barn is only like 4 miles from the house. My dad had horses when we were growing up (we had a little bit of acreage). Maryland is a horse state and we went to quite a few horse things (auctions, visiting stables, etc)....

Re: Heart Rate Monitor Question

I was given a garmin vivosmart hr for Christmas. It works really well for both sitting around heart rate and for use during exercise. I liked the heart rate on my wrist enough that I bought a garmin forerunner 235, which has the same on your wrist heart rate hardware but adds in gps geared towards r...

Re: If you dig HD motorcycles...

I started out on a japanese bike when I was 9 or 10 (a 1978 XR75) so I didn't start with an anti foreign bike thing. Also, I just never understood motorcycles that weren't at least a little sporty. Cruising and highway touring just confound me. I did try something towards the touring end when I had ...

I sold my tablesaw, jointer, planer, routers, lathe, etc, etc for a song a year or two ago. There was just not enough room for everything in my 1 car garage. I hope to get back to it when I retire. I didn't completely empty the garage though. There's a 16 Beta XTrainer 300, 00 Kawasaki KX250, 03 Kaw...

Yeah, I scored a 21 but have a Chilean wife; have played in a salsa/merengue band with some puerto ricans; work with/daily interact with bunches of chinese, indians, and koreans; ride dirt bikes with lots of blue collar guys (many white collar too); live in a blue collar area; etc. So, I'm not sure ...
