Re: How can I find a good attorney

I'm a mediocre attorney who does contracts. The key with most contract review is that you want to find someone who will give you practical advice and not a legal memorandum. It also matters a lot whether you are looking to find a "good attorney" or "an attorney who will give me the advice I need." Y...

Re: The couch thread

A month ago a former co-worker while doing @fit apparently slipped from a chin up bar, landed on his head and had to be rushed into surgery for a cerebral hemorrhage, still having some complications but has finally been released from the hospital. I mean, accidents happen with any sport/activity, bu...

Re: Weeds

We enjoy Weeds, but its definitely in a different category from The Wire, Breaking Bad, Mad Men, The Shield, etc.

Its more of a guilty pleasure like True Blood or Entourage. It's a fun way to waste a half hour, but you won't have died unfulfilled if you miss it.

Re: non-hardcore KB S&C for BJJ

Thanks, I'll take a look at the bully-proof stuff, I had thought that it all required multiple kids. I guess I could secretly ninjafy one of his friends, I doubt if the parents would mind all that much.

Re: non-hardcore KB S&C for BJJ

I think he'll be a good training partner in several years, but right now he's only 6 and is about 55 lb. The only bjj we do is a game where he tries to pass my open guard and smack me on the forehead to 'win.' He also has an annoying tendency of punching me in the nuts, which he claims is by acciden...

Re: non-hardcore KB S&C for BJJ

I'm not taking it personally and it's probably what I need to hear (but don't want to admit). I'm making decent progress and with fitness-related stuff I do have a tendency to push myself too hard to quickly and injure myself. Maybe I'd be better off just doing some more mobility or light yoga as su...

Re: non-hardcore KB S&C for BJJ

I stick around after class and roll with the other people who also stay later, but my BJJ classes are at 7AM or noon and that's usually only about 15 minutes. I was trying to go to some of the evening classes as well, but the trade-off with my wife for adding Saturday classes are that I take mini-me...

Re: non-hardcore KB S&C for BJJ

My first choice for some extra work would be to try to do some partner drills for 15-20 minutes after class, but my hesitation is that (a) no one currently seems to do that, the people who stay later just roll more, (b) as a white belt I'm not entirely sure how to organize partner drills other than ...

Re: non-hardcore KB S&C for BJJ

Thank you for the link, that basically lays out all I would need to do in terms of progression. I guess I could start with the 1-arm thruster and eventually progress to the 2-arm (or not).

Re: non-hardcore KB S&C for BJJ

I'm 38, so I do spend 15-20 minutes a day outside class doing foam roller/stretching/joint mobility and the hot tub ~4 times a week. Once I noticed my immune system not quite catching up (bruises weren't going away, feeling run down, etc.), I stopped worrying about my weight (~225 lb) and started ea...

Re: non-hardcore KB S&C for BJJ

Thanks, that pretty much is the goal--- just improve conditioning so that I can do more BJJ. I've seen the PM recommended a lot on Dan John's board and I've done it for a couple of weeks at a time in the past, but I never really felt like turkish get-ups really did all that much for me.

non-hardcore KB S&C for BJJ

I did search through past threads and checked out Fatcat's logs, but figured I'd start a thread anyway. I've built up to six days a week of BJJ (since about August) and am just looking for some kind of very simple, non-hardcore S&C where I can start light and not be all that tempted to go heavy and ...

Although it may not be ideal for the general population it may be perfect the meathead like me who wants to get stronger and move better but can't seem to stick with a template for more than a month or two. Yeah, that's basically where I am. I did the ETK ROP with good success for 3 months, but wan...

531 for Football

This is more passing along another review & writeup of the weightlifting program than anything else, mostly because 531 For Football really is what it should be-- a manual for football coaches, which is something that I am not and really do not have much business commenting upon. But even though tha...

Re: The couch thread

What's the point of tying KB's to the bar when you could just put on a couple of iron plates next to the bumpers? Maybe my training bumpers are different, but they're a smidge larger than my iron plates so the bumpers would hit first if you're worried about that kind of thing.

Re: The couch thread

There's a pretty entertaining combination of scantilly-clad photos and graphic sextalk on some of the logs of the women who post on t-nation, I'm surprised/disappointed that the highlights haven't found their way over here to save the rest of us from having to sift through the training log bits.

Re: Greg Everett's "Olympic Weightlifting" book

Jim Schmitz and Tommy Kono are two guys with good books that come to mind. But I know there are some more that I thought were good too. Not sure if they still sell it, but the Jim Schmitz video & workbook seem about as no-brainer as you could possibly make learning the olympic lifts without a coach...

Re: Art of Strength - Strength in Motion Workbook

I know this is an old thread, but I was surprised/impressed by the ETK Workbook so had been looking around for more info on SIM. I came across a blog post that had one of the routines. Warm-Up: I chose the second drill from the “dynamic flow drill” list, took 4:45 for 2 rounds of: 1. swings – 10 rep...

Re: 2008: Don't call it a comeback

Let some RL stuff interfere with the diet and workout. Wife had a seizure from pain medication (everything OK now but she's not allowed to drive for 3 months by law), sold/bought house, moved in, more moving, hiring contractors, etc. Cortisone shot did nothing, back still hurting, saw an ART guy yes...
