Re: Fiction books you've read multiple times

Hemingway: The Sun Also Rises, Old man and the Sea, A Farewell to Arms, and a bunch of short stories. "A Clean, Well- Lighted Place" is the greatest short story ever written and I have read it more times than I count. . +1 for "A Clean, Well-Lighted Place", but I think his best ...

Re: Fiction books you've read multiple times

Now that the topic came up I realised that I mostly read non-fiction and professional stuff. Among the books that I re-read not too long ago The Mansion by William Faulkner (difficult to get through, but well worth it. Simply monumental.) Graham Greene - Quiet American, Our Man in Havana, The Comed...

The language is so masterfully crafted. It is also truly terrifying.
The weight he makes you feel knowing what he'll do to his son and for his son if it came down to it, is crushing.

Re: Fiction books you've read multiple times

Cormac McCarthy - The Road. Stronger man than I...oi. That book ruined an entire vacation for me. Very intense. It's like supersetting the NIN and Cash versions of "Hurt" and listening to them on continuous loop. "The Road", the movie, couldn't keep my attention 15 minutes into ...

Along the lines of The Stand, I'll add Swan Song to my list of reread books, too.

Re: Fiction books you've read multiple times

Some good ideas up in here. "Heart of Darkness" and Hemingway short stories are the only fiction re-reads I can think of outside of classics I read in school and later read as an adult. I wouldn't mind rereading "The Road" and "No Country for Old Men" again, but there's...

Re: Right now I'm reading

I'm reading "Imagine Heaven", which is essentially a book on folk's reports on near death experiences, i.e. clinically dead and then came back to life. It most definitely has a Christian slant, but the people interviewed run the gambit from Christian, Hindu, Muslim, Jew, right on through o...

I can't stand soccer. LAX would be tolerable, I suppose, but I can't say I've ever watched a full game and a good friend of mine is a HS LAX couch for one of the Twin Cities top HS teams. My son is in basketball right now and I think I hate that more than soccer.

Re: How many facebook friends did you loose this week?

@ Boris, the 'problem' with many libs (and I am not a conservative), is that the very things they despise are often the very things they are guilty of, too. Take racism, which is clearly one of my favorites right now as it is on the left. White, college educated kids shout racism at any inkling of ...

Re: How many facebook friends did you loose this week?

Fair enough. But i do not think there is any evidence at all that Trump supporters in any numbers would be rioting in the streets, burning cars and flags, and threatening more violence. Rush and Hannity may have had a 20 minute meltdown. But we have seen for the last two years the left only continu...

I gained one. An old Marine buddy.

I did have a liberal friend who asked me to stop posting on her crybaby thread (and I was very polite and fair in my comments). I of course, agreed and told her "of course, my very best to you and your family, always". Kill 'em with class.

We should involve him as often as possible before he goes on his next rafting trip and it's too late.
Well, Tim is both a Lib and a great outdoorsman, so Canada may be a viable option from his perspective.
