Re: The Magical Rest Week

Interesting point BD, although I don’t think I’d have noticed it if you hadn’t pointed it out. I’d say in terms of how I feel and perform: - Deload Week - Week 1: Everything moves nicely, but a little harder to get into the groove. Things feel heavy though. - Week 2: Strongest and most technically ...

Re: The Magical Rest Week

My reason to adding back in the lifts was exactly for the reason BD says, after a back off I feel great physically but week 1 is ugly from a groove standpoint and it just feels heavy. Good part is i don’t freak because I know it is coming. But for me that was a Geared week, so to mitigate the rollba...

Re: The Magical Rest Week

To answer the question, I found dropping the big lifts did help recovery a bit more but 7-10 days of not doing the lift made loss of groove more of a problem. So I added them back in nice and easy. Very important to not overthink this and give your brain a rest too. Meet Training was not only physic...

Re: The Rhino on Recovery

I concur with BD. If I had to do it over I would number 1 do more volume at RPE 7-9. Number 2 I would do my main movements in gear and raw consistently, and then do a partial or derivative movements 3-5 sets of 3-5, like board presses, DL off plinths, box squats to lower or higher heights, lightened...

Re: The Rhino on Recovery

No don’t lift heavy weights 3 times a week if you are going to roll or run or practice a skilled sport. Do 3-5 moderate workouts and once a in a while if you are feeling it push a rep PR. Rarely If ever a single. It is called “just doing work”. Leave reps in the tank. Do not crank out that one last ...

Re: The Rhino on Recovery

Fat what is interesting to me, and Stan is not the only guy who says and lives this, is even as a super jacked, sauced, Smart, superheavy and gifted lifter he could not take Super heavy squats and deadlifts every week. If you are doing heavy 3s. 2s, and singles bench once a week and squat or dL once...

Re: The Rhino on Recovery

I am going to disagree on the growth set and intensity over volume arguments. Sounds great in theory and from afar, but not that practical, successful, or realistic in real life. You might not be wrong to listen to the Rhino, because he is the real deal and straight shooter. But while I have done HI...

So he will attempt to use our country’s most protected intelligence in order to take out his enemies, but his tax returns are verboten. Tough. These fuckers weaponized the IRS, the NSA, the FBI, and the CIA, just to protect Hilliary and to influence an election. Time for some good old fashioned med...

Declassifying the investigation docs is the axe Trump has held over the left’s head for a long time. This will not destroy the left, but it will takeout a bunch legally and whatever is left of some of the others credibility will be gone. But what is going to come out has been available for a while f...

Re: Phil Daru/Daru Strong

Not a big fan of medicine ball slams, but they aren’t bad. I like the rotational throwing drills a lot actually. Plyos are jump up, jump down and rebound, jump back up. The issue is the impact of the jump. Really a lot of wear and tear. You can get almost as much rocking into jumps or doing banded b...

Re: Game Changers

No. I found as I moved out of being a newbie into being a intermediate lifter, and research verifies this, that a seasoned strength athlete’s 5RM ability to crank 8 reps drops. So a newbie 300 pound squatter or deadlifter can do 8 reps with 80% plus. 80% is good. I trained that way up until I was 21...

Re: Game Changers

Yes, I used to be very much 3 on 1 off, jumping a lot between week 1 and 2 then making about 50% of the jump onto week 3. Then a back off. So as an example my raw squat cycle on squat day 1 (second day was either a derivative squat move or alternating box and geared squats in peaking cycles) would l...
