The Iron King (1955) by Maurice Druon. First in a seven-book series of French historical novels collectively called The Accursed Kings (“Les Rois Maudits”). Translated by some guy with the unlikely name "Humphrey Hare". The first six books came out from 1955 to 1960, the seventh in 1977. Capets vs P...

Intel NUC

Intel's "next unit of computing" is a mini-PC, about 4 inches by 4 inches square. There's a "short" one about an inch-&-a-half high, and a "tall" one about 2 inches high. Both versions have a bay for an M2 drive; the tall one also has a bay for a 2.5" hard drive. Some versions of the tall one use th...

Blazingly fast. Unbelievably snappy & quick. Seems rock-stable, at least so far.

Weird pastel blue color scheme.

Same shitty content.

It's only Montana.

It's interesting. But I can't understand what ‎Mahershala Ali‎ is mumbling most of the time, which cuts into how compelling it is. Season 1 was riveting. Season 2 was unwatchable. This season is in-between. I'm hooked, because I want to see what happened/happens. But not loving it the way I did s1.

Nobody in their right mind thinks that abortion is a good thing
It's not. It's just better than the anti-choice position.

Roe v Wade is beside the point, I think a right to an abortion is implicit in the 13th amendment.

I've been recommending Google Keep for a few months now. It's made a huge difference and it's a free, easy to use, app. I still keep a physical notebook and use Google Calendar, but organization and limitations inherent in those platforms made adding Keep a no-brainer for me. Google Keep is flippin...

After action review: Tweaks New for 2018: piano lessons! Great success, until about Sept. Very enriching and rewarding, too. Be more resilient to "perturbations". A miss here & there is inevitable. But don't let a missed day turn into a missed week, a missed week turn into a missed month. Resolving ...

Re: Looking 3 Years Younger

Facial exercises are a pretty crucial component of treatment for Parkinsons.

In addition to subjectively "looking younger", I wonder if some of these things assist with speech, and with nonverbal communication (expressions & stuff), in ways that help alleviate social isolation in the aging.

"Judo elbow" presented (to me) as simultaneous Tennis Elbow and Golf Elbow. Inside and out, you get it both ways! Taking ~three months off resolved it. Other things helped: forearm stretching, finger extensor work. Practicing piano for short stretches seemed beneficial, which was interesting, but I ...
