Re: Cluster set training

Many things were around for a long time, some justifiably so and some not so much. Here is the link to the dissertation by Junathan Oliver: https://simplifaster.com/articles/wp-content/uploads/sites/5/2017/08/Cluster-Training-Science.jpg According to the results of the study: The use of intraset res...

Cluster set training

https://simplifaster.com/articles/cluster-training/ or http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_BYOuYeqUmY The principle. In the traditional training for mass you do (say) 4 sets of ten reps. Cluster sets include short intra-set breaks (I think 10 - 20 seconds). So instead of 10 reps x 4 sets you do 5 reps-...

Re: Strong Endurance

I'd say it's like going for a jog but by lifting kettlebells. The purpose of A+A is to build the aerobic energy system, which is useful for anybody. Sort of interval training with long rest periods. You become efficient getting rid of lactate. And - Ryan is probably right - it can be HR based or tim...

Re: The Rhino on Recovery

BD, what do you think about this: https://www.strongfirst.com/daily-dose-deadlift-plan/ To me, seems like a reasonable lifting program to follow on top of doing other sport, in my case BJJ. Right? Wrong? I know, anything from Dragondoor or Strong First is irritating by affiliation, but this seems ok.

Re: Strong Endurance

Ryan, the concept of AGT or A+A has evolved over time. It's still repeated short bursts of high power lifting, but at some time someone over there introduced Maffetone's ideas of aerobic training. As you know Maffetone's method is limiting intensity to HR = 180-age. His gauge for measuring progress ...

Re: Strong Endurance

It's much different from EDT. The whole point is to avoid using the glycolytic/lactic acid energy system. You use short alactic bursts and then recover using the aerobic energy system. If you feel a burn, you're doing it wrong. You reckon? I think it's somewhat similar. You progress from many short...

Re: Sleep Paralysis...

I know very little about this stuff. Except for some experience of my own. When I was a medical student we stole a few packs of GammaOxyButyrate ampoules. At the time (about 1983) it was used to induce anaesthesia, but it was perfectly suited for recreational use. If you drank it you got high, and y...

Re: The Rhino on Recovery

Frequency of training is one of my big interests. Probably because when I come across something like training once every two weeks I get an excuse to be lazy. However, it is an interesting topic, and I came across low frequency quite a few times. One of the early posts on my blog: Frequency of Train...

Re: Strong Endurance

EDT has been around for a long time. Probably because it works. Some coaches recommend waving the total volume from session to session (light, moderate and hard sessions), to avoid overtraining and injury, but the principle of going from X sets of N reps to one set of N x X is valid. In A+A lifting ...

Re: Do you even lift, bro?

I find it hard to do any meaningful volume of lifting on top of four sessions of BJJ a week. For now I have stuck to deadlift singles several times a week, A + A kettle bell stuff when I can and pull-ups. At my level I do use considerable strength in my wrestling, and this little extra seems to keep...

Re: Let's See How Much Traction This One Gets

I am fascinated to see how reporting/complaining etc. to the authorities has become a completely acceptable action. In the former USSR, where informing on "the enemies of the people" as fairly widespread, it was a mostly a morally forbidden activity, and most informers were recruited forcefully by t...

Re: Phil Daru/Daru Strong

The idea of plyometrics is to trick the muscle into contracting at considerably higher power than is possible with the traditional, conscious effort. To do that plyo makes use of the stretch reflex: if a tendon is stretched suddenly the Golgi body activates the contraction of the muscle, at the same...

The best business is to tell people how to make money. Most successful websites, podcasts and youtube channels do just that. Earning money by telling people how to make money. Best fucking thing.

Re: Reload by Pavel

I must say, Pavel's writings are enjoyable more often than not. He likes theory, which connects with the nerd in me. Dick sucking atmosphere on Strong First (on top of PC) is nauseating though. The only more nauseating place for me is Starting Strength forum.

Re: Strong Endurance

True, that place is super secretive. And their free handouts are pretty slim, considering what others put out. At the end of the day it comes to this: 1. Estimate MAF HR = 180 - age 2. Choose 1 - 5 lifts that get your heart rate up 3. Lift until your HR gets to MAF 4. Rest until HR goes down to MAF ...
