Re: TheHappyBody.com

I think the happy body people are right that strength is important and training to maintain and build muscle is vital to aging well. I think they are right that stretching/flexibility/mobility is important. A good yoga program, or tai chi, or jumpstretch bands, or whatever is also vital to aging we...

Re: TheHappyBody.com

Spells & Fats, I can't point to any data, just anecdotally, I think many karateka ("many", i.e., disproportionate to % of population, etc.) end up needing new hips. Might a bazillion kicks be bad?

Re: Only endurance exercise slows down ageing

Sangoma, I have only perused their website and book offerings on Amazon, not read their book(s), but from what I glean, they feel endurance exercise overall is not good for aging well, not just running. Yes, your comment, i.e., "not being good at it", might still apply but, and I say this as more of...

Thanks. No particular interest, more general interest, along the lines of what you addressed. Probably just my exercise ADD's never ending search for Magic Manna. I'll be 60 y.o. in January, so interested in staying all-around good as long as possible, etc. Also, I sit at a desk many hours daily so ...

Fat Cat, please check out link in new thread I just posted in this forum, www.TheHappyBody.com. Those authors knock endurance exercise as part of healthy aging.

I would say light enough so you don't perform a valsalva maneuver (holding your breath and trying to push out). Ryan, thank you for the info. Is what you're describing the same as Pavel's teaching about, when in the strain portion of the lift, releasing the breath through pursed lips and emitting a...

Re: Cardiac calcium score - reversing heart disease

Cayenne, I am out of my depth in regards to your situation. Low risk asymptomatic people don't seem to significantly benefit from statins. How the outcome changes with the history of TIA I don't know. I have seen a study where taking statins after TIA reduced the risk of stroke later by about 20% a...

Re: Cardiac calcium score - reversing heart disease

Here it is, the calculator. http://www.cvriskcalculator.com/ If your risk is below 10% calcium score testing is not indicated in the first place. Sangoma, is this basically saying that in this low risk pop., statins are not helpful? How is "low risk" defined? At 58 y.o., lifelong recreational exerc...

Re: Is anyone watching "The Americans"?

I only got to watch half so far, (DVR'd) and today, couldn't wait, read reviews so I know what happens, but know I'll enjoy watching the rest when I'm able. When Phillip tells a confrontational Stan, "we had a job to do" (essentially, confessing, although he then went on to deny the various murders,...

So many ways this can go...... Because there are so many ways this can go (examples - does anything become of Stan having called the Preacher in South America? Seems not, but what an odd piece to insert...The former FBI secretary living in Soviet Union, I think they were done with her when they sug...

Re: Is anyone watching "The Americans"?

I am fascinated to see how they close it out. No idea of course, but a sick ending that would make sense would be, sadly, Stan getting whacked in some final confrontation, the heat on Elizabeth & Phillip cooling off, Soviet Union collapses, and the Jensons (do I have their last name right?) without ...

Re: TRX vs. Woss - Litigation / Bankruptcy

2 companies, both of which I believe have been discussed here, sell straps used in physical training. 1 of the 2 companies is said to have infringed upon the intellectual property rights of the other. The resulting litigation destroys the losing company. Some of the comments, if not here, elsewhere,...

Nice one Clean it up like new and keep it clean - wipe the rail and rollers with a damp cloth before and after every workout and it will last forever I've always been under the impression that a glass cleaner, Windex or generic, is what is suggested, not "a damp (suggesting water?) cloth". Luke, is...

I bought to model E purely because the seat is higher off the ground than the D. Makes a real difference to comfort and also puts my tablet at better position when watching YouTube between bench press I've never been on a an "E" but I've wondered. Once you're on the erg, the height difference makes...
