Re: Brief praise of jogging

Running on grass is one of the most overlooked keys to building mileage without beating yourself up. We're super lucky that the city bought an children's home property right by our house when it closed down to keep it out of developer's hands. It's got several large buildings and a gym, along with s...

Re: Another Saudi Terrorist

What kind of world are we living in that the US even trains Saudi pilots? The kind of world where the Saudis keep the petrodallar afloat and buy billions of $$ worth of genocide, I mean weapons, from us every year. If the Saudis wanted to fuck us up ROYALLY, all they'd have to do is start selling o...

Re: Home gym thoughts

On the bike, get a Concept2 BikeErg and it will last forever and be cheaply maintainable and the resale will be close to new price if you ever come to sell it. Was actually going to suggest that same thing. We've had our C2 rowing erg for 15 years and all I've ever done is change batteries in the m...

Re: Trump vs. ???

Bernie is probably the best chance the Dems have of going toe to toe with Trump. But I honestly think Tulsi is the best candidate, and could easily face up with Trump in both the debates and the online wars. She and Bernie are probably the only two that could pull independents out of bed and actuall...

Second the Pose or other "natural" running style, but wouldn't sweat a forefoot/heal landing. Just focus on foot landing under your hips rather than "reaching" and get your cadence up over 170 total footfalls/minute and everything will fall into place. Make any changes in running form gradually. Ye...

Re: Mad about walking

Piriformis? I know some people have their sciatic nerve running through the piriformis and if it gets tight it'll give sciatic pain that's similar to what you're describing. I've been dealing with an issue with my right glute/hip and have been going to a really good PT for the last few weeks and she...

Re: Home gym thoughts

Those platforms made from plywood and stall mats work great. You can cheap out on the first layer of ply, but I spent a little more for the better grain wood on the top layer. Marine grade I think. Stall mat from Tractor Supply wasn't very much and is well worth it. That rack will work fine. I'd ski...

Yep, passed last year. Still one of the greatest, most versatile stringed instrument musicians ever. Just incredible what he could do with a guitar, banjo, violin...... Any time magazines like Rolling Stone put out their "Best Guitarists" lists and they don't have Roy Clark or Jerry Reed near the to...

mj&s: It's the dopamine hit from the stuff you mentioned. It's crazy easy to get hooked on all that shit because it's all designed to deliver just enough of the feel goodz without the feels being long lasting. I read an article one time where a soft drink maker's chemists specifically designed the f...

Re: What to make of the election?

I'm talking about Clinton insinuating the Russians want Tulsi to run as a 3rd party candidate as some scheme to hurt the eventual Democratic nominee. That makes no sense to me because Tulsi would pull more of the independents that would ordinarily lean Trump but would jump at the opportunity to vot...

Re: What to make of the election?

I think Tulsi would probably pull more votes from the Republicans than the Democrats... No way Look who is giving this candidate with sub-single digits polling press time. That tells you everything you need to know. She has ZERO chance to win the Dem nomination. Along with Beto. Crabs in a bucket. ...

I think Tulsi would probably pull more votes from the Republicans than the Democrats, hurting Trump much more than Warren or Bernie (I'm assuming Biden is toast from being exposed for the next 12 months of impeachment back and forth).

Re: What to make of the election?

So apparently anyone who doesn't toe the Clinton/DNC line is smeared as a Russian asset. Nothing like a cackling bitch who funneled millions of dollars from Russia into her family's "foundation" calling out someone else as a Russian puppet. The DNC is looking more like a shit show every day, and the...

Was there a crutch? Meaning he had a van in front of him so he could draft....it was downhill......anything like that? There was a car maybe 50 meters in front of the pace group that was beaming a laser onto the ground in front of the pacers that kept them in their exact lanes and on a perfect 2:50...

When I do my strides and top end speed work, I get around 3:50-4:00 pace for a bit. 200m repeats are at about his record pace. Absolutely staggering he did that for 26.2 miles.

I don't know. I tend to think these efforts in the 1-2 hour range at crazy intensity is a much more challenging task than the ultra distances at lower intensity. There's just something especially gut wrenching about walking that line between barely able to maintain it and blowing the fuck up. The 2 ...

Anybody else keeping up with this at all? Eliud Kipchoge is going to try and run 26.2 in under 2 hours this Saturday morning. Not an official WR due to the pacing strategy, but still will go down as maybe the single most impressive feat of human endurance if he can do it. Live stream on youtube for ...
