Re: Future of IGx

Sub Reddit makes sense. I'm up for connecting on Facebook, but I'm hardly ever on there and when I am, it's for a group formed to connect owners of a breed of dogs SubReddit sounds good. I just want to say this, in case this place goes away. I have gotten more useful info from this board than almos...

So, I'm 6'4" and 300 (I'm not as fat as I sound. I swear. A lifetime of Lifting and judo). I have a an Evolution Pro or Comp (I forget which. Small wheel, big flat fan blade, large upright pillar with monitor at the top) I ride it with the seat all the way down. Never any problems. My only two compl...

Re: Is it stupid?

Also, as always with new kind of activity I was out of breath half way through the session. Yeah. With Judo last year, getting to the point where I could make it ALL THE WAY thru a class, and still be active & participating at the end, was a milestone. I'll have to check my training log to be sure ...

Re: Is it stupid?

Anyway, thanks very much to everyone for advice and suggestions. I am on holiday for another week, but on return I am going to check two BJJ schools near my house. Dude, if you have any questions, put the school links up on this thread or PM some people. There are enough people on this board with l...

Loved it. I think it punched way above it's weight. David Ayer makes entertaining movies.

It reminded me of Shadowrun, if anyone remembers that, from my secret nerd past.

Re: Is it stupid?

A lot of good advice in this thread, especially this: Start slow. Like one class a week, until you've acclimated to the activity. Even then, your days of being able to roll every day as if you were still 25, are probably gone. I can handle Judo twice a week; I think I couldn't handle it 4x a week, a...

Re: Is it stupid?

To join a BJJ school at the age of 55? I marvel at the agility of wrestlers, but is it reasonable to try to do it at my age? Advice? No, it is not. I'm thinking of making the switch from Judo to BJJ (I dabble) permanently at 42 because it is easier on the joints and less impacty. There are lots of ...

If there's one surprisingly reliable phenomena, it's that "strength" coaches will use terminology they do not understand to justify training methodologies which are ineffective at best. I remember having to memorize all of this in A&P: Your cellular ATP stores are used up in approx. 2 seconds, dire...

How does he keep the tank from becoming a medium for all kinds of vile shit? I know Epsom Salt has Magnesium Sulfate in it, which will have some antimicrobial effect, but a huge tank of non-circulating, standing water is asking for trouble.

Re: Bergdahl Set Free with Minimal Punishment

This is a complicated case for several reasons. 1. The consensus seems to be that he lacked the mental stability to be a successful soldier; that this was evident at every training level (basic training, AIT, unit level, and deployed); and that he was still deemed fit to serve. Lowered standards wh...

I mean, imprisoned for 5 yrs by the Taliban is kind of its own punishment. Minimal ADDITIONAL punishment, I'd say. Valid point. Situation was completely of his own making, however. It's not like he was captured in battle. Also, another soldier was shot in the head is permanently disabled because he...

Funny, didn't happen in Houston during the massive evacuations and flooding either. What did happen is people started helping other people even when their situation wasn't great. Alfred had an interesting point, at one time our neighborhood was put under a mandatory evacuation order, however, there...

Which ones are those? Switzerland. 30% (approx) gun ownership, virtually zero gun crime. About 1/5 of their suicides though. The Scandinavian Countries (except Sweden). Gun ownership is common (20-30 guns per 100 people), gun crime is rare. Sweden used to be the same, now it is becoming the AK and ...

Thing's that are rarely addressed (on purpose): -The relative homogeneity of a society in relation to it's level of gun violence -countries with ubiquitous access to guns but relatively little gun violence -the fact that most of the U.S. gun violence is concentrated both demographically and geograph...

I've read of people getting down to stupid fast pace/mile on the Maffetone style of training. Like 5:00 miles at ridiculously low HR.
