Re: Ancestry sites and hidden relatives

Frankly, I couldn't give a shit about my ancestry. I have zero interest in knowing any long-lost relatives. Blood ties have never meant anything to me.

Re: Kettlebells for Running

At this point in my my life I am at the point where, in regards to training, I know what I need to know. I don't need to buy any more books. I don't need any more protocols. I don't see the potential of anything new on horizon that would drastically alter my basic approach. Shaf (lazy fuck) should ...

That all being said, Jaime Lewis has a new book out and if I get fifty extra bones I'll buy that shit because I appreciate what he is doing.
Care to elaborate further?

Re: Kettlebells for Running

The big deal is that you can't actually find reviews for this shit that aren't from members of StrongFirst. The book isn't going to be available for awhile, except that it's 'available now'...it's actually some weird preorder strategy And I suspect that Smet's latest articles are going to be more u...

Re: Pavhole's new book is out today

The con is that you pretend you can do them harder than anyone, and if you believe real hard, the magical Latvian fairy comes down and grants you What The Hell Effect beyond measure. What 20 minutes of Q&D will look like Every 30 seconds: 5 hard 1A swings, rest remaining time. Repeat other hand. Do...

Re: Kettlebells for Running

Having posted all this shit above I hope the book will be about alactic antiglycolytic training in general with a few "protocols" they teach at their Strong Endurance seminars. It's a fairly novel concept and can potentially change the way we train for certain qualities. We'll know in two days. Ima...

Re: Kettlebells for Running

I saw an ad for that new book. Lazy, do explosive pushups and one hand swings. Yawn. Can't wait to see the reviews feeling swole after 2 weeks in the arms and lost 3 inches in the waist. At least Dan John puts out interesting material. The only thing TGU's make you better at is TGU's. And that's fi...

Re: Kettlebells for Running

It's an absolute, scientific certainty that SS sucked all the air out of the room as far as discussion of any other use of KBs goes. Can't argue with the truth. I've often thought that it would be good if you just switched up the ballistic movement each day, but kept it basically the same. Just rot...

Re: Kettlebells for Running

Well... now that we have established that S&S sucks at being a standalone program, let's discuss what would be a nice all-around KB centric program. My choices would be: - The Armor Building Complex (2 cleans, 1 press, 3 squats) on the minute plus pull ups. - Left of Passage: 3x(1,2,3) of some clean...

Re: This is a thread about increment plates

This made me legit chuckle:
U.S. armed forces powerlifting champion Jack Reape has painted all the 2.5-pound plates pink at his gym to discourage lifters from using them.A good move, manly and scholarly.

Re: GB vs GMB

I agree with this statement, although I am really enamored with GB and would love to focus on it at some point when I have the time for the workouts (they can get quite lengthy) and get access to stall bars and some of the other equipment. GMB is by far the better path for most grown ups. GB is gea...

I got it. It works in a strange way - I would expect it to rather be in the "Sent Messages" folder. But as long as it works I am happy. Thanks for clarifying it. I like this better. Ths way, if you “accidentally” send drunk dick pics to FatCat, you can always delete the message before he reads it a...

Re: This is a thread about increment plates

I don’t Agree with his volume vs intensity dominance claim, but his wave loading discussion got me started on fun with quarters. And when you do the lighter set you will feel an ability to go faster. And be more explosive with the heavier set. And if you do it with the right weights you will only b...

Re: This is a thread about increment plates

My experience... When I incrementally add a little bit of weight (or little bit of distance on a MTBike ride, or etc.) it feels like the same weight but heavier. When I make a jump, it feels like a different weight. My relation to it has changed. The weight moves me differently when I move it. Does...

That's an interesting idea with a lot of merit as a simple way to tell when you're crossing the border from healthy training to unhealthy straining.
I guess it's the same idea behind the long, steady cardio using nasal breathing only.

Re: Weight Training, Heart Attacks, and Strokes

The aortic root is mildly dilated. Keep an eye on that. Another possible byproduct of high blood pressure/ valsalva during lifting. Avoiding the Valsalva maneouver might be the perfect auto-regulation tool (unless you are into strength sports). If you are forced to use it, maybe the load is way too...
