Re: Aging sucks

Guys/Gal...uhh, Mak and I have kinda set the stage here for the "right" kind of advice and commentary and this super dogooder, thoughtful, heartfelt shit is really fucking up my mojo. It's making me feel something inside other than the dark void that guides my personal anarchy. I promise, scout's h...

Re: Aging sucks

Getting old sucks. Part of life. Part of what we have to embrace. I have been away for a while; got old, got heavy, got fat, got pissed at myself. Never stopped training. Never stopped competing, but I sincerely thought of giving it away because of dwindling performance at the apex of my sport. Stil...

Re: So about that Vegas shooter . . . .

Could have been better gun control? (Dont think it could hurt) Could be about mental illness? Uh have to call bullshit here. Here's the thing, true mental illness means delusions that people can't control. Very few of these people are ever violence in this kind of way with premeditated planning. Th...

Re: What's better...

Depends on goals. Honestly, if you are doing any form of athletic endeavor it's better, IMO, to do total body. Things are always easier when you are stronger - to an extent. When you perform an athletic endeavor (whatever that may be), it's better to realize that you have one body that does that ath...

Re: Stem Cells... Wizardry?

funny thing. In the "Bro-science" world a hierarchy developing on injury recovery. it goes like this. 1. Stem cell therapy 2. Growth Hormone 3. Platelet Rich Plasma 4. Peptides - close to PRP, but not as good as old fashioned GH. 5. all the crap that most PTs and doctors know about and is normally c...

Re: beet juice--endurance benefit?

Shaf,
What sort of dosing protocols on the powdered stuff? Sam's Club had some when I was there last week. Never considered it, but I've got a very hard endurance wise event coming up in two weeks; I'm game for anything at this stage.

Thanks for your thoughts.

Re: How do you train?

Current Training is really a hodge podge where I periodize the event work and use strength work to maintain what strength I have left. Been dealing with some shoulder issues for a bit, so my strength sessions concentrate on some warm up cardio, with shoulder rehab before moving into full body workou...

Re: Old Man Supplementing

Any value in glucosamine & chondroitin? As preventative? I take it and I believe it has a place in an aging athletes regimen. I am a big believer in supplements. DHA/Fish oil, magnesium, calcium, Vitamin D, ALA and Milk Thistle. Protein Powder shakes a few times a day. And BCAA's post workout. I al...

Re: Goals for 2017

I have decided to abandon most silly strength stuff. AT the ripe old age where "maintenance" is the key while becoming more mobile and flexible. The ultimate goal is the same as last year - continue slimming down. The new related goal is trimming my power belly. An also related goal is to increase m...

Copious amounts of Venison. Rinse and repeat. Tis the season.

Good read on all of this. A great reminder of the proper mindset and the long term goal of life associated with athletics.

are you consciously squeezing the bar, and engaging the forearms, when benching? I assume so. This is odd.

Re: Old Man Training

47 here. And I now spend more time doing recovery and warm up exercises than I do lifting. I'm a big advocate of SMR and rolling (both before and after training). I also have my own EMS unit that I use with ice which is magic manna. I have hot stones that are round that I roll on to hit hard spots. ...

Re: Hobbies and such

having read others responses, I realized I do a good deal more than just hunt. My sport allows me to travel. A lot. Normally out of the country twice a year at the minimum. Work allows me to travel a lot too - only in the states. I really enjoy visiting gyms I've never been to before; When travellin...

Re: Hobbies and such

I play Chess with my 7 y/o son, early, every morning, 7 days a week. That's awesome. My son is early teens and it's tough to get him to do much with me, but we still play cards from time to time for change and it's always a good time win or lose. My son hides in the bushes wearing a ghillie suit an...

Re: Hobbies and such

I sharpen. Pretty much everything, though I do a lot of kitchen knives lately. A few years back, I'd picked up a ZT after recommendations I got from here. Around that time I'd realized that my knives just sort of sat there and got replaced once they'd gone dull for whatever reason. I figured if I'd...

Re: Hobbies and such

Other than my sport, I hunt. I also enjoy hiking. Family owns a good deal of property and since my mother passed a few years back, I spend every weekend with my father hunting - squirrel, coon, deer, and bear. Started bow hunting again last year. I am a miserable shot, much to my father's enjoyment....

RBSG.... Presumably you mean you've pulled 900 from blocks/the rack? Or are you saying you've pulled 900 from the floor? Best ever was 825 from floor. Pulled over 8 a bunch a times. That 9+ Was with a 10' foot bar that simulated the hummer deadlift - really bent a lot. And with straps mind you. Pul...

skinny calves. when is leg day? perhaps the knee high socks are giving that appearance? I will note they look better on xfit chicks. And I must embarrassingly admit that I wear them when I Oly lift or pull. On the subject of straps.......once you get over 800 pounds on the bar I find it irrelevant....
