Re: Rucking Thread

Any shoe thoughts? For me, the special sauce has turned out to be a Rocky S2V. Also popular in Goruckworld are Moab Ventilators, but they have no shank, which for my money means they're only good for distances of up to 25 miles. Be very, very, very open to the idea that you'll need a larger and/or ...

Re: Megareps

Someone should try to persuade him to write an e-book. I did suggest it to him. He says he doesn't want to do it because the return on the effort is quite low. Currently he sells several courses, and this is more profitable for him. His online coaching services also make more sense to him. So the b...

Re: 2020 Goals

AEN, I think there are two components to getting physically ready for the Star Course. One is aerobic capacity, and if you’re accustomed to lots of running/biking LSD, you’ll probably have that covered. In Goruck lore, the rule of thumb that people circulate is that you should work up to a 40-mile h...

Re: Back to KBs

Thur., Dec. 26, 2019 “Magic series.” (The speed pullups are tiring. I’ve looked back at Dmitri’s directions, and I don’t know where I got the idea that this should be like speed work. He just said this should be light, a 15RM weight done for three reps per set.) Jerk 2*16kg x54. HR 126 bpm. Much ea...

Go Ruck is my go to. Hoping to do a 50 miler. https://www.goruck.com/event-15318/ Dunn and AEN, being a presumptuous and patronizing dick, let me share my lessons from the Star Courses I did this year: Bitter, stupid disappointment in San Fran-Sucks-So: https://leansoliddogs.blog/2019/08/06/assume-...

Re: Back to KBs

Nice! Thanks, Mick. Tue., Dec. 24, 2019 Rucked 80 minutes. “Magic series,” including the snatches and jerks. (Same as yesterday, just added 1.25# to pullups. None of the lifts felt as fast and snappy as yesterday.) Snatch 20kg, 51+51. HR 142 bpm. Less reserve than last time, so I didn’t add a rep.

Re: Back to KBs

Sat., Dec. 15, 2019 Rucked 150 minutes Sun., Dec. 16, 2019 Jerk 2x32kg, 2; 2x24kg, 5. Snatch 24kg, 3; 28kg, 2; 32kg, 2. Again, that stuff is too heavy for morning time. I’ll stop doing that. Snatch 20kg for 50+50 reps in 8 minutes. HR ended at 150 bpm! Some tricep fatigue too, but not serious. I ha...

Re: Pavhole on Rogan

another peculiar fact: there is not a single interview with Pavel in Russia, only translations from Western sources, even though his books have been translated to Russian and his name is very well known in the fitness circles over there. This. Even on the Russian internet, nobody knows a thing abou...

Re: Megareps

I suspect he's holding me to especially small increments because he was horrified by my training log. (When I first tried to ape his "megareps" method, I was adding 50 reps a week, jumping up 2kg, and doing it again, every day.) That's slower than he's gone. When he started his self-experiment in No...

Re: Pavhole on Rogan

If Pavel's hiding something about his background, I bet it's not so much a Big Lie (e.g. tubby LARPer in mall dressed in bogus Ranger uniform, gets exposed and humiliated on camera) as a pretty innocuous Don Draper kind of thing, like (and this is 100% speculative fiction )... Maybe he resorted to s...

1) You do a “magic series” daily that is a lot like Easy Strength, but even lighter.
Are these grinds or fast lifts?

Re: Pavhole on Rogan

He's also a compulsive liar. We need details! And none of this shit like, "Oh, it's all been said before. Go read the entire fucking IGx archive." I was never a DD insider with a direct line to Denny and shit, and I came a few months late to the IGx party back when The Revolt of the Steves happened...

Re: Pavhole on Rogan

He is an incredibly good popularizer. Here are game-changing ideas that I learned from Pavel that I would have heard about from no one else:
  • neurological training
  • using frequency and volume
  • low fatigue
  • pulls as an alternative to squats
  • and kettlebells of course--this is obviously

Megareps

Last night I spoke with Dmitri Sokolov, whose “megareps” method Smet wrote about on his blog. https://girevoysportafter40.blogspot.com/2019/09/megapovtorka-another-way-to-train.html It’s good stuff because it appeals to the part of me that likes Maffetone/Mittleman/Easy Strength. I won’t go into a t...

Fri., Dec. 14, 2019 Jerk 2x32kg, 2; 2x24kg, 5. (First thing in the AM, cleaning double 32s feels heavy, clumsy, and risky. Either I need to do these later in the day or use 28kg in place of 32kg.) Snatch 24kg, 2; 32kg, 2; 36kg, 2. (Here too, first thing in the morning, the 36kg is too much weight f...

Re: Pavhole on Rogan

I've interviewed/interrogated people for over 30 years and Pavel shows some serious signs of deception throughout this interview. His first response to the question of when he started lifting kettlebells. Raised his arm to answer the question. He was like a cat on a hot tin roof during the whole th...

It wasn't as much of an interview as it was Pavel's penetration. And it was dense and smooth, more and harder.

Wed., Dec. 12, 2019 Still one workout shy of ending third microcycle of “Ryabchenko modified,” but I did a “Megareps” workout. Surprising result: Snatch 20kg, 50+50, over about 6 minutes. Stopped looong before failure, with at least 30 reps in tank (per hand). However, HR still ended at 147 bpm. (G...
