Re: Dinosaur training Brooks kubik

I'm with Rudy and Bobby: BK was important in the 90s as an evolutionary step. Remember what that was like? Essentially no webz, and unless you had the insanely good luck to come from a great gym, the only info you had access to was Weider's soft porn. Even the worst tripe that T-Nation has ever publ...

Re: Rucking

Anyone had any joy carrying a kettlebell in a backpack? I have a standard cheapo commuting/school type back pack. It will hold a 16kg kb without breaking, but fuck me is it uncomfortable. I'd like to be able to carry it about a mile up the road to a park, do a workout then walk back, during my lunc...

Bill, you're never going to get results with that. It needs to be green, it needs to cost $75, and then with hard work and patience you will look like this:

Re: What have you been doing different with your training lately?

I was just watching a video of club training that looked interesting. And I remember Fat Cat saying they were great for keeping his shoulders healthy. I don't have any training experience with them, any resources you suggest? Sonnon's "Big Book of Clubbell Training" is worth buying used. Beyond tha...

Re: What have you been doing different with your training lately?

Clubs. I like 'em. The whole new feel reminds me of when I first tried KBs in 2000; it was like an addictive roller coaster for my nervous system. I'm liking density training and sometimes, when I need a light day, doing some circuits where I don't put the clubs down for half an hour or more.

Re: This kind of shit is why I can't take Nuckols seriously

I found it amusing how he tries so hard to write it as a "drugs are bad, mmmkay?" polemic, but he can't help but let out little whoops of joy along the way as his athletic performance soars. It's the best scam for keeping your integrity and satisfying your inner adolescent since being a tantric sex...

BBC piece where the reporter, who's an experienced competitor, wants to know, "What would doping do for me ?" and does a before/after study on himself. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a61rS4jN3As Two side notes: One, the journalist's Scottish accent is so over the top that I thought it was a put-on....

Onnit 45lb. steel club

I developed chronic elbow pain while powerlifting, and I needed resistance exercise that would let/help them heal. I started by doing sledgehammer rotations for the elbow, a la Diesel Crew, and then I started playing with other leverage moves. Then I started moving a sledgehammer like a meel and was...

Talking about a Concept 2 or something, right? Anybody who can't work it pretty well after 2 minutes of playing with it should have his license to walk and chew gum revoked.

Exploding bogatyr head

Some days you get the bogatyr, some days the bogatyr explodes and gets you. But this week the Ukrainian secret service caught the Semtex bogatyr head as it was smuggled through customs. http://www.ssu.gov.ua/sbu/control/en/publish/article;jsessionid=C84DABE7DC43A803375E8F4CBAA21A21.app1?art_id=13284...

Re: Back to KBs

I’ve been fretting about my fat loss being interrupted (disrupted schedule  less controlled eating), and it’s threatening to make me do crazy random shit, like suddenly wanting to start 50/20, even though I’m not looking to focus on hypertrophy now. So the first step has been to order a newer Tanit...

Re: Back to KBs

Like the look of that swing-carry routine. Thanks, mon. I took the weekend off and didn't feel like doing anything this morning, so I did straight S&S. It was the first time in a couple of months and went fine. I'm much stronger in 40kg swings than two months ago, and the rests were about 30s, whic...

Re: Back to KBs

I've had a busy few days of training. TWO DAYS AGO I'm doing my best to hit all of Dan John's fundamental movement patterns regularly, and where I lag most is loaded carries. Training in my garage lends itself well to everything but TGUs and loaded carries. So I cooked up a swing-carry routine: Swin...

Re: Back to KBs

I've had house guests all week, so the last couple of workouts have had to fit into strange hours (not the early am, which is one of the great tips I got from the John Douillard book). So they've been just "generic, park bench" workouts with no real conditioning component. TWO DAYS AGO: I wanted to ...

Re: Back to KBs

A relatively easy session today (though it was more than I meant to do, and I worry that on this "easy week" with the new braces and house guests, maybe I'm committing the Dan John sin of having my easy days be too hard). I meant to do Litvinovs in the park, front squatting the 40kg and the 24kg, bu...

Re: Back to KBs

I've been resting for the last few days while I learn how to eat with these braces on. The only work I've done was some presses a couple of days ago: C&P 130#,3; 140#, 3; 135#, 3 This morning I took a couple of KBs to the park. I had a new idea for a KB complex that would dilute the local shoulder f...

Re: Back to KBs

On Tuesday I ended with the question, "If I can't do heavy (100#+) repetition barbell complexes, what will I replace them with?" I've spent the last two days trying alternatives. Yesterday was a kettlebell complex, which I didn't completely love: 1) COMPLEX, 2x16kg: SW x10, CP (1 clean+1 press) x10,...

Re: Back to KBs

1) COMPLEXES: I mixed them up, but they all used 100# for 5 reps/movement with 50s rests. SN, OH squat, SN-grip DL (twice) RDL, bent row, CL, FSQ, PP (twice) combo: FSQ+PP+back squat+PP (once) RDL, row, CL, GM, thruster (once) 2) hi-bar SQ 225#, 5/3 alternated with clean & press, 130#, 3/3 3) plank,...

Re: Back to KBs

Saturday was wild. Instead of anything like the usual, I took a trapeze class. Awesome. I got to do a back flip and then hang by my knees, swing, and then grab wrists with a coach doing the same thing and swing off my trapeze. Damn fun. If I get a chance I'll take a few classes on a "static trapeze,...

Re: Back to KBs

L calf/ankle still a little painful, and L hip feels faintly sore in the glute, like it needs a little foam rolling or stretching. I'll do that this weekend. So instead of doing the barbell complexes I planned on, I adapted: 1) KB complex with 32kg. Goblet squat x10 + SW x10. 6 complexes -alternatin...
