Re: http://www.secret-of-athleticism.com/

I don't think there's anything new (at least not to me). The reason those funky vertical jump shoes 'work' is that it helps kids learn to engage THE HIPS... I've been telling kids this since at least the late 90s... Synergists, hyper irradiation, etc. I wish people would post links https://www.youtu...

Barely okay.
Totally agree. There are few comic book adapted movies that I like and this is NOT one of them.

Gal Gadot is gorgeous of course and it had promise but the whole Aries thing ruined it.

Re: Breaking Bad redux

Let me start by saying that I understand that I am getting old, so my tolerance for certain entertainments is diminished... I watched the first 1.5 seasons and had to stop. I think it's well done. The main actor and the DEA agent are great. BUT, I can't spend an hour watching one guy in chemo and th...

Re: Static-dynamic method

This was kind of a thing for a while in the late 90s, early 2000s with Schroeder, DB Hammer, Kelly Baggett, Thibideau, etc. 'Oscillatory training', or 'oscillatory isometrics', or something like that. I thought it was fine as a once-in-a-while tool.

Re: Deadlift w/ hex plates

You might avoid some mess by standing on a couple plates or a low box and deadlifting off of pins set low. It'll be noisy though and depending on how heavy you go (and the quality of the bar), you might bend the bar.

Have you considered a $2 notebook? =D> =D> =D> Fwiw, I DO pitch in, but calling me cheap certainly doesn't make me want to up my contribution. If I had a log here and was worried about losing it, I'd print out a hardcopy and start copying and pasting to a document, save it in files by year and emai...

Re: The Americans- Season 5

I just got back into season 3 recently. It's okay. Better than a lot of the horrible television programming that doesn't even pass for 'entertainment', but just okay.

The Paige subplot is awful and it's like the son doesn't even exist (which is perfectly fine by me fwiw).

Re: Foreigners only- Comey testimony

It's all over the news in Japan.

I'd say in general, in Japan, people have no idea how he became the U.S. president and now assume that every American they talk to probably is a supporter or closet supporter.

Re: Tired of bullshit called news?

There's some great line about how media organizations lie about their own country but tell the truth about others. TOTALLY TRUE! NHK is great... as long as you don't care about what conservatism and the LDP (PM Abe's party) are doing in Japan. I'm a fan of NPR, but they aren't above bias. Al Jazeer...

Re: What's volume training?

Come on, guys, high-intensity, HIT. Arthur Jones, Mike Mentzer, Ellingrton Darden, John Lilly and so on. Spend 20 minutes at the gym, do one set of one exercise to failure, go home, get huge etc. One thing about Yates that somewhat surprised me is him saying don't chase heavier weight. For him weig...

Re: What's volume training?

The consistently missing piece is that Sets of 10 don't just equal volume and sets of 2 don't just equate to intensity. My 20 reps squat progression...is a very low volume program. (20 working reps per week) The way I do doubles is a VERY high volume program for me on bench. (upwards of 50 working ...

Loved it.

Wasn't better than the first though and the Mantis character was a little annoying.

Re: Strength training priorities for endurance weenies

It will if you are busting ass, but if your goal is to simply put in some work, it shouldn't. I agree w. Syaigh. Do the basics and injury prevention stuff. When you are ramping up your sport training, it's important to adjust weight room work accordingly. It's not that complex, but it's amazing how ...

Re: What's volume training?

I've never been 55 and I don't keep up with what Rip says so take this with a grain of salt. I've been doing sets of 10 off and on since I was a wee lad and started doing bdwt exercises and since starting lifting weights at 13. There is nothing inherently good or bad or magical about one training nu...

Re: How to train yourself

Dr. Squat said this on his forum many years ago - I had the foresight to copy it down: Look, 'routines' are just that! I have written much on the subject. I have probably given the subject more careful thought than most. Here is yet another thought that I should've written at some time... maybe I di...

Re: How to train yourself

Things are a little more complex for working adults with a family and responsibilities beyond training, of course, and if your goals are soft maybe it doesn't matter that much. But, generally, training should show an upward trend of volume with many peaks and valleys and long plateaus. I don't know...

Re: How to train yourself

Work capacity is a trainable quality. This is where the HIT and Heavy Duty and Hardgainers of years past went wrong. we were joking the other night about "hardgainers" No one could recall seeing a hard gainer who did the basics with good form. Or one that ate breakfast, or didn't fritter away their...

Re: How to train yourself

I am against the idea that in all cases more volume equals more results. Let's say you're doing 5 hours in the gym and you're not improving. Is 6, 7, 8 hours appropriate? Maybe, maybe not. No one is arguing that. I'm arguing for optimal training, and against the notion that more is always better an...
