Re: Battling Depression

Syaigh, I wasn’t aware of the Agita Sao Paolo program. I included a link if anyone’s interested: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/14662077/ I constantly forget as a personal trainer that some movement is better than nothing and get caught up in strength training, cardio, flexibility, and diet. Which...

Re: Battling Depression

You know there is a lot of evolutionary research on exercise, etc. You can go down a lot of rabbit holes, but here's a summary of some concepts I've been working on. 1. Bed rest, ie complete inactivity, is really bad for you, it affects all the major organ systems, causes insulin resistance and high...

Re: Battling Depression

I think that's awesome. Good on you. I think its important to just be there sometimes. It can be more stressful when someone is always trying to fix you. And when they trust you, they will ask you for help when they think they need it. They are very lucky to have you.

Re: Battling Depression

My most depressed relative’s father thinks mental health is a hoax and has severely impeded the process :( It blows my mind that some people refuse to believe that the nervous system can be just as dysfunctional as the rest of the body. I think a lot of people are still stuck on the idea that our m...

Bram, I can't find the original podcast anymore. But here is an interview with the guy from USC that they interviewed: https://www.latimes.com/opinion/op-ed/la-oe-soni-campus-student-loneliness-20190714-story.html Looking him up lead me down a rabbit hole of other resources: His articles: https://mu...

Re: Battling Depression

Syaigh, Would you recommend the parents listen to the podcast or the whole family? They are curious, thanks again! I would have the parents listen first and decide. They do talk about suicide. I listened to it with my daughter after I listened for the first time. It was a good conversation starter.

Re: The Riddle of BBQ Sauce

Of course it should go without saying that a good brine and/or rub will make your chicken far more flavorful than just grilling it. I brine my chicken breasts in 2 quarts of water with a half cup of sugar and a half cup of salt for two hours. Sometimes I add some paprika, onion powder, and garlic po...

Re: Cities to visit in the Southwest

Moab, UT is kind of more west than southwest, but highly recommend especially if you like hiking. The national Arches park (open 24 hours if you want to do some stargazing) is just outside of town. Sedona, meh (seemed to be a whole lot of crazy and then not much at all, but I'll admit, I didn't expl...

As a female, it can be advantagous to ask someone if they want to not look like a pussy, but it strongly depends on the audience. That kind of shit can still get us killed.

Morality is subjective so let me explain according to my subjective understanding of morality. Not quite. Individual morals may be subjective, but morality on the whole is an outcome of human biology, which has dictates that are not subjective. For example, you can't tell someone that breathing is ...

Every 4 fucking years the repubs roll out the tired and sad abortion shit to try to paint their opponents as murderers. Data clearly shows 2 things: Liberal sex education and free and easy birth control is the easiest and most reliable way to drive abortion down. The freer and easier abortions are,...

Unfortunately, those who are most vocal about outlawing abortion also tend to want abstinence only education, no access to contraception, and purity ceremonies. That's true. It's also true that most of those who are most vocal about legalizing abortion also view abortion as a lifestyle choice, rath...

Which one are you talking about syaigh? I have his Les Halles cook book and I think it's pretty good, but it's all very straightforward French bistro cooking. Also, I don't think Timmah can cook very well either, so maybe he is like Bourdain? Appetites. Great photos, great writing. But ultimately t...

You need to up the vituperation. That's all you got? I guess what I'm saying is kill yourself. I tried but it didn't take. Then you'll never be like Bourdain. Probably a good thing. He may have been an entertaining drunk, but I bought his cookbook and he cooks like an old protestant lady. He's got ...

But wife said that when I arrived I looked emaciated, and when left looked healthy. Trust the wife. My husband got into a workout/diet program (which unfortunately i had suggested) and took it to an unhealthy degree. My mom finally pulled him aside one day and asked him if he was sick, ie had cance...
