Ayn really really craved the Maytag treatment. This is apparently true. Of coarse, I never understood L Ron Hubbard's popularity either. He's not popular. I read once that Scientologists actually bought books at the bookstores and then their depot sent the same books back out again to drive up thei...

If Glassman had ever done the work to get a paper published, he'd know what the place of peer review is. Those of us who actually work in scientific endeavors are familiar with the benefits and weaknesses of peer review.

Plot details match Ben Bova's The Winds of Altair amazingly well.
But Pocahontas works too. Dances with Space Wolves.

What is wrong with Annie Sakamoto's pull? It looks pretty good to me, and it's definitely one of the best examples from @fit. In other news - Rant is back. "The Moynihan Institute The Institute is in the process of reopening. Stayed tuned. 11/20/09." Non-expert opinion? excessive leaning ...

Val came to the 7 a.m. class on Saturday to hit the workout of the day along with everyone else. Only, this was also Val's wedding day! I don't think there are many brides out there that would train on their wedding day, but Valerie has her priorities straight! Are you fucking kidding me? This is u...

I had a an official CD of the Vangelis soundtrack once upon a time...IIRC, it was a UK only release or something like that.

Swamp Thing is classic. Moore is insane, but great. It's a shame that Totleben's eye disease kept his output down. His cover paintings are incomparable.

Also Miller's Lone Wolf and Cub is good.
Busiek's Astro City combines retro-futuristic comic book nostalgia with some darn good writing.

Yes, David Drake. I mixed up the order, though. With The Lightnings is the first book. Drake, BTW, is a personable, friendly fellow in RL (or at least towards fans). I met him a couple of times. One nice thing he does is he will sign any book of his... he's not one of those guys that makes his fans ...

Re: Good sci fi

Drake's Leary and Mundy series (begins with Lt. Leary Commanding ) is entertaining. In spite of a high mortality rate the tone of the stories is pretty positive with an underlying sense of humor. It's an intentional homage to the Aubrey and Maturin novels, of which Drake is a fan. Drake does the sam...

What we have here is a misunderstanding.

That dumb hero totally ruined Fat Cat's planned crocodile sacrifice and subsequent fertility ritual.

Tragic.
