Re: The couch thread

That 2 to 500 quote has been blasted around a lot, but the continuation I don't remember seeing: We will though work the deadlift, like most lifts, approximately once per week at higher reps and under grueling conditions. It may intuit well that if you can pull a 250 pound deadlift 21 times coming t...

Re: The couch thread

http://games.crossfit.com/athletes/be-afraidbe-very-afraid.html An exchange between Couch and "Dave from Chatanooga Crossfit". Notice how quickly the ass-kissery and apologism comes out; also shows Couch's view on steroids a bit...seems that as long as no one's caught, he doesn't care: No...

Re: The couch thread

Off topic post... Not sure if this has been discussed before since I do not frequent the board on a regular basis... Have the Glassmans ever been nominated or considered for nomination for a MacArthur Foundation Fellowship Grant? They certainly seem to meet the general criteria as posted here http:...

Re: Banned first DL xfit wod

I tried my first real DL during my month of checking out the WOD. I think I pulled an ugly 285# on this workout exactly, or lost it due to grip. Sure they was some poorly advertised talk of scaling, but I'll admit I'm lucky I didn't hurt myself at all on that max effort. I do see a couple 4-500lb pu...

ledfist making fun of the idiot?

I poke around there sometimes. Usually when someone asks about learning oly lifts, and I pitch Lost Battalion to them in an attempt to recruit lifters, or when people talk about learning the lifts from books, I tell them to get a coach and share some links on how to do that. I'm a shill for my sport...

Re: The couch thread

When I watch this vid I can see why the xfitters who try real o-lifting have such problems.
It's also funny how they all seem to have the same quirks in their lifts, at least the one's I've seen.

Re: The couch thread

Crap, I think just getting a better time slot in the 08 broadcasts would do a lot for the popularity.

Seeing the competition in 04 is what made me want to do try it out. I ended up having to wait until 2006, but I was hooked from just watching once.

Re: The couch thread

Thanks, Dan. Glad someone's seen it. Yeah, fewer classes might be good. And time... sometimes a meet takes forever. I get a headache by the end from the sound of the weight dropping. And good PA announcers can make a real difference, too. Just letting the crowd know that a lifter is going for a PR, ...

Re: The couch thread

Yeah Dan, the meets aren't always the most awesome event to come to, but when it's not a school sport, it's hard to get the kind of support, venues and attention other sports get for youth. And there's no pro's to emulate in the US... we need a nice slew of Olympic Golds... But I have been to some w...

Re: The couch thread

The actual competitive lifters who've been exposed to the OLs via Crossfit is still quite small. There's no trickle down or farm system, it's mostly mid-20s to mid-40s folks taking them up. I'd be totally curious to see the number of competitive lifters who come to the sport through xfit. I am gues...
