my gripper thread gets shit on but guys can talk openly about doing old school inclines on 2x12s????

A 2x6 should be ok for you if that's what you're asking.

Yes, he was a lifter in the Venice Beach / Santa Monica area back in the 60s, when he was a med student. Squatted 600. Here's an article about it, published a couple months after he died in August 2015:

He's against straight-leg deadlifts:

Not a personal fan of either inclines or SLDL.

I use inclines and push presses to build upper body strength for our weightlifter and throwers. We flat bench, but most pressing time is spent on inclines or push press.
