endurance folks

Look up the Barkley marathon-the event that eats its young. It's a doc on Netflix.

I'd been aware of the event for a few years. Just watched the doc Friday night. Really well done.

I like that the organizer doesn't take it seriously at all. Just a test to see who can suffer the most and still come out the other side.

I have a few friends who consider themselves lucky for getting in one lap (the "fun run") I may do the fall classic Barkley Lite 50k next year

Great doc. There's a fine line between testing yourself and out-and-out masochism, and this is so far to the other side that you can't see the line anymore, but I get the appeal.

Oh please do, master. I'm dying for your most valuable critique of the marathon itself. No doubt that if not for your numerous unhealed injuries, you could smoke that task and set a new all time record.

Mrs. Kenny X and I watched it last night, hot on the heels of watching that other Netflix running doc about the people who run the 4 desert ultras in the same year. We both enjoy that stuff.

It was a great film, and I'm still thinking about it, this morning. What got me was the combined elevation you climbed whilst doing the full five loops is like climbing Mt. Everest *twice* in 60 hours. That legit slack-jawed me.

The runners in the movie impressed me, too. Not only in their fortitude but in their overall attitude as well. Seemed like down-to-earth people. No pretensions, no elitist bullshit. That was refreshing.

I'm entering that race next year. Mickey, you should do a practice run of that race right now and get those hammies loosened up.

It's not on Netflix in Italy yet, so I watched a short version on youtube. When they tear pages from books to prove they'd done the lap, one of the books was called 'The bad place'. It's a sign, they are telling me to come and do it.
BTW anyone have a torrent link to the full version?

One Finisher....

http://www.runnersworld.com/races/the-2 ... orld__News
Forty participants, all selected in notoriously secret fashion, started the race Saturday morning for the 30th running of the event. Only one person finished all five loops and its 100-plus miles—Jared Campbell, an endurance athlete based near Salt Lake City, Utah. Campbell, 36, also is the only person to complete the Barkley three times.

That finisher Jared Campbell is quite talented on mountain terrain. This is a pretty cool video of him running up and down Mt olympus in Utah which isn't actually as boring as it sounds

So Ericc, assuming Mario didn't chase you off with his administrative wizardry, did you ever run this?
