On the nootropics thing, I'm just going to post what my buddy referenced. He's been doing this a long time and is a big RL optimizer.
I think this guy has a better list than I do, and is more interesting:

From his list, definitely do not take
- astralagus
- methylene blue
- avodart, metformin, metoprolol unless prescribed
- horse chestnut
- that mangosteen complex
- aminoguadanine
- piracetam (this is just a smart drug)
- calcium (instead, take "magtein" magnesium threonate)

I also don't take coffee or aspirin, but understand the logic.

He doesn't mention resveratrol (www.longevinex.com) - but he must be taking it.

Nicotine is an interesting one.

Nicotine sans tobacco seems to be far less addictive, maybe because there isn't a ritual attatched to it, but there's also some real benefits to cognition and focus. For me, it's valuable in the mid-afternoon, maybe when I'm flagging, or if I'm driving distances later at night. I have to take it surreptitiously because my wife associates nicotine with smoking and cancer.

Attached to the post is a nicotine doc by KEEFER of CRABBARKLUDDING....note, as per his usual Modus Operandi, he probably drawing sketchy conclusions, however, it is fully cited, which can give someone a jump off point to do their own research. I don't see his recommendations as bad, merely incredibly optimistic.

Nicotine seems most useful in a low insulin environment, i.e. the mornings of a traditional IF type day, or on the no food ADF day, or a lower carb environment.

The latest to pop up on my radar: "Toad."
Some folks I know hooked up with some shaman-types, who administered and supervised a session of smoking toad venom extract. The report was that it was earth-shattering like no other experience.

Slightly off-topic, since I'm not talking micro doses here.

So the only thing this investment in medication is good for is being good at taking tests?

I am with you here. Nicotine per se is mildly addictive, in spite of its reputation (more addictive than heroin - obviously unsupported bullshit). I have been using nicotine gum for more than a year now. Generally in the afternoon, to counteract post-prandial sleepiness (not very convenient when at work), as well as appetite. Definitely not addictive: I can miss several days without any cravings.

The guy is giving off a Fatt Murey vibe (and the Jamie Lewis like career path).
