IGX Thanksgiving Erg Half Marry

Post by Alfred_E._Neuman » Sun Oct 30, 2016 8:56 pm

The wife and I have a long tradition of kicking off the Holiday Challenge and getting in a preemptive strike on the monthlong gorge fest by rowing a half marathon Thanksgiving morning.
Any other IG rowers want to get a virtual half marathon going that morning? We could even set it up via rowpro if enough people want to get in that have the program.
I don't have a lot of experience with vampires, but I have hunted werewolves. I shot one once, but by the time I got to it, it had turned back into my neighbor's dog.

Bob'll row that shit before most of us have even had our first cup of coffee. He got more than 600k in the Fall Challenge.

You'll have to remind me as we don't do thanksgiving here so I have no idea when it is even. And it will be probably a different day due to time difference...

But I normally do a couple of 15ks a week so a HM is doable

I have wrapped up the challenge with a half the past couple of years but since I am erging some now I could probably kick it off with a half too

No i won't.

That month was a one off thing. I needed to drop some weight, fat, and used the rowing to help.

I cannot abide long rows. Much prefer doing extra sessions.

Got my treadmill operating again so will probably do most of my aerobic work there.

Gather together all of your close relatives and start an argument. Try to deep-fry a 30 LB Koala Bear. Drink more beer than usual. Pass out in a food coma by 3:00 PM.

They separate in half in literally 5 seconds and go back together the same. Stood on end in two pieces they take up no room. Or just stood up on end in one piece if you have high enough ceilings and kids won't knock it over etc.

Have mine permanently set up in our front room. Handy thing about the C2 is they look pretty cool.

Best thing about the C2 is if you buy a decent used one, clean it and keep it clean (daily) and oiled, then you can sell it if you don't use it for pretty much same as you paid for it.

Yeah I've seen that they separate so that you can store them easily.

But they're pretty noisy too, aren't they? I live in a condo with my wife and 17 month old daughter. Most of my workouts are done early morning before they wake up. The C2 would be too noisy for that, which is why I was looking at one of those waterrowers a couple of years ago.

They are pretty noisy. We have an almost two and an almost four year old. Their rooms are at the opposite end of the house - erg is in the front room and our bedroom adjoins the front room.

If I row early in the morning it sometimes wakes my son up. But if I row at night just after they go to bed it seems to help them sleep. Or at least puts them off from getting back up lol.

My wife can go work on the computer in the bedroom and then noise doesn't bother her at all.

It is louder in our house because we have hard wood floors and no real soft furnishings. If we had carpet and curtains etc I think it would be much quieter.

It's also obviously a lot louder when doing hard intervals or a time trial compared to low rate steady state work. Either way it is still quieter than a washing machine.

1:26:41.4 Was going to wait till the afternoon but Holland shamed me into getting off the couch. At least now I can play guitar the rest of the day.

Didn't work all that hard and it ended up being my PR for the half. I just have a diesel engine, cause my 2k time has never been that great, but throttle the pace back just a little and I can go all day.
