Goals for 2017

Post by Sangoma » Sat Dec 24, 2016 11:31 pm

I guess it's as good a time as any to plan for 2017. I will start.

1. Squat - bodyweight + age (stolen from Boris)
2. Drop body fat to levels that will make me look cool - between 9 and 12%
3. To do more aerobic type training - stationary bike or long walks, weighted or otherwise
4. To do at least three hunting trips
5. Oh, yeah, to press 32 kg kettlebell

Couple more goals of personal and business nature; superstition doesn't allow me to openly talk about them.

Train more days than not. Mainly alternate days of erg/ride/jump rope with BW and KB stuff.
Work mobility much more. Neglected the hell out of that this year due to time constraints.
Maybe try running again and work up to 30 minutes once or twice a week.
Continue to get better at the guitar, mainly acoustic.
Get another old sports car. Hoping to find a nice MGA Coupe and hot rod it a bit.
I don't have a lot of experience with vampires, but I have hunted werewolves. I shot one once, but by the time I got to it, it had turned back into my neighbor's dog.

I've just started putting next years goals together - about all I'm sure of is they will be much different than previous years.

Race often/have fun
Three 100s penciled in for the year
One 48 hour race
Fill in the gaps with 50ks, trail marathons and some shorter road stuff for training runs.

100 reps at 42K - that's quite a goal! Luck to you! I just watched VF one arm jerk the 60K bell for 80 - simply crazy work!

Stay the course i.e. keep doing what my GS couch tells me, maintain my cardio focus, keep training bjj as much as possible, keep eating like I have been, and just keep on keeping on.

The only thing I need to add for my own benefit is some yoga/mobility work and meditation. I need to fix my right hip issues.

I may do some new stuff this next year but I may not. Honestly my training went so well at the end of this year that I hate to change anything.

It is indeed. I've hit +80 with the 36 and 45 with the 42 so far, neither was horrid. Still a far cry from my goal. I'm pretty certain that being able to hit goal would mean I've got my ducks in a row in terms of strength and endurance. We shall see.

1.get the hernia fixed.
2.start some serious conditioning work (running and rucking).
3.Regular flexibility and mobility work.
4.When hernia is fixed start squatting/deadlifting again.
You`ll toughen up.Unless you have a serious medical condition commonly refered to as
"being a pussy".

Lose some fucking weight - I know what I need to do but haven't found the motivation to just stop shoving food in my pie hole, as in years past. On the plus side, the training/conditioning side is on point.

1. Exercise every day. That one's easy.
2. Food journal. I hate this one but it's what works best for me to lose weight.
3. Get weight down below 220 and keep it there.
4. Don't injure myself.
5. Compete in at least two GS comps.

As always, I know these goals are subject to real life and can change for some reasons good, bad and unforeseen.

Sharing goals is shown to be unhelpful... both in research and in my own practice.

But I do like reading other people's and I do like trying to capture the process in terms of a mission statement or policy. Such as:

Continue my 2016 which has been the best year of fitness for me in two decades.

Simple recipe: commitment

Minimum of 8 week cycles of sustainable exercise.

This is why I tend to be nonspecific or just no mention of the truly important stuff.

These aren't goals so much as things I think I am going to (hopefully) do:
- finish my sailboat I am building in the garage. Have start it first
- do a multi-day kayak trip
- next MA belt
- continue to stay fully funded until retirement
- more mountain biking!
Don’t believe everything you think.
