Some PR's

Post by Beer Jew » Wed Dec 28, 2016 2:20 am

Over the last couple of weeks I've hit PRs in all my lifts, achieving my 2016 goals of a 500lb squat, 140kg bench and 260kg deadlift.

The videos are the squat and deadlift. As you'll no doubt see from the deadlift video, I'm way too heavy at the moment, weighing around 220.

The aim for the first 3 months in 2017 is to consolidate the strength gains whilst losing weight (I should be around 200lbs) and then in the latter part of the year, to push forward to hit 240kg/155kg/280kg by the end of the year. That would give me roughly a 7.5 x be total.

Nice job and all that.

Why the straps? I don't care that you used them, I'm just curious why you do. Have you tried hook grip?
"Know that! & Know it deep you fucking loser!"

I only really use them on max attempts. If I were to have missed that after all the training just because of my grip, I'd be pretty pissed.

Incidentally, I have tried hook grip. The concept is fine, and I've hook gripped 500lbs with no problem, BUT...

.... my thumbs bleed like a motherfucker when I try, and hurt for days after. I just don't see the value in going through that pain. I train mix grip, and I simply use straps on a max because I don't want grip to be a potentially limiting factor.

I've never had a problem on the platform holding onto whatever I can pull, but this isn't the platform.
