Saw those guys and the Red Army chorus in person years ago. It was pretty amazing.

I'm actually only half joking about it being leg day. I remember folks like Blaidd Drwgg and Shaf used to argue that the pistol is just a balancing trick, but I still can't understand that point of view. That's like saying a snatch is just a balancing trick. The leg strength of these guys is off the charts and their balance is just one of several attributes on display.

I am with Fat Cat on pistol. It is a one limb variation exercise, just like one arm DB bench press, standing one arm press or one arm clean and jerk. Pistol requires strength, flexibility and balance, all useful attributes. And weighted pistol is a serious challenge.

I'd like to be able to do this (someday):

It's kind of a circus stunt, I fail to see any real value to it, but it's cool as fuck.

That's really cool; I'm sure the Sabbath playing in the background helped.

Cool, Yes.
Probably useless, also yes.
but I'll muck around with it and see how I go.

More specialized leg routine: I would call it ankle-toe workout. Fun starts at about 1:00. In case someone misses the main point: these guys are dancing on flexed toes.
