And honestly, considering the number of injured, barbell squat is more dangerous.
That's because all athletes, irrespective of their sport, use barbell squats to get strong. Their numbers are in the millions.

And literally nobody but retarded RKC and StrongFirst followers try to get strong doing pistols.

Millions of pro athletes barbell squatting vs. a few dozen of nobodies pistol squatting.

I seriously doubt you can out-pistol Ido Portal. And he clearly stated that barbells are the go-to for the lower body.

No sprinter, no long distance runner, no high jumper, no pole vaulter, no rugby player, no basketball player make pistols their main leg exercise. Ask yourself why.

I did pistol squats long before X-fit was invented.
I was referring to your inability to think for yourself.
Hm. I think that pistol its a best choise for me, despite your arguments.
Isn't it thinking for myself? :)

You are missing the point that i am not a pro athlete.
I am just a guy who wants add some load to legs and who have no barbell.
And that load wich pistols gave me its more than enough for me.

Should be doing rear foot elevated split squats. With or without external load: just use a backpack full of books or even rocks.

And guess what? You can even extend its range of motion: just use a couple of books as a block.

And guess what? Millions of pro athletes use the RFESS, as their main movement or a USEFUL accessory.

You don't need to be a pro athlete to train smart. Only twats use pistols.

I’ve never managed pistol squats
Try this preparing exercise (at 0:28) at first you will drop on your ass, just keep trying.
I do it in warmup before pistols.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sw_gvXvqNbA&t=28s

Its just squat with one leg. Its not an acrobatic trick.
Your knees will be fine.
Actually my knees crunched a little (without pain) when i did shrimp squats, but they do not crunch during pistols.
For me pistols its more like recovering treating for knees :) just try to keep back straight and do it slowly.

Its a good exercise, there a balanse on one leg and some strength at the same time. And one legged balanse moves its what docs advicing.

You do like pistol squats. And that's fine.

Other people like sucking cock. And that's fine too.

Don't confuse what you like with what really works.

The little inconvient truh is that no athlete is using pistols to increase performance. They do barbell squats, split squats, lunges and rear foot elevated split squats. Ask yourself why.

This is not a matter of opinion. Athletes use what works and discard what doesn't work.

I have nothing against people doing dumb stuff just for the sake of it. I do that too.

But contesting the usefulness of barbell squats and RFESS is just plain dumb. So, please, don't.

Inconvenient truth here is that the term "what works" depends on your goal.

As I already said I am not a pro athlete, and I have absolutely different goals.
I do not want grow muscle mass, or peak myself to some competition.
I just want to be able move freely with aging.
And pistols much better for this goal.
And btw, Russian strength coaches advicing pistols, not for sport results, but for sport longevity.

I agree with everything SubClaw has said.

Pistols are circus tricks. Good luck with your knee tendonitis goals.

Almost as gay as convict conditioning without worrying about dropping the soap.

Strange enough though, problems with knees mostly have those who squating only with barbells and had never tried pistols.

Tendonitis galore and trochanter grinding the hip. Which is quite common.

As I already said, pistols, behind the neck anything and bench dips are very injury prone exercises.

"good" pic

"bad" pic
Classic good and bad pics :)
But i do not see what so dangerous in bad pic.
And strange thing, those who squat like on good pic with good technique are often complaining about pain in lower back.
I often reading about pain in lower back on FB.
And again, they had never did pistols.

Read the fucking article, where it's explained.

So now your knowledge is based on what you decide to read on Facebook.

Now go to Google and search: pistols hurt my knees, pistols hurt my back.

So even the few dozen assholes who does pistols complain about them too. If your are unable to produce results, I can post some pictures so you can't avoid the inconvenient truth.

Oh, and I'm still waiting for you to answer why millions of athletes use barbell squats and RFESS (don't you dare to ask me again what it stands for) and literally no one but a bunch of RKC/SF idiots does pistol squats.

Why are you avoiding the question?

I do not avoiding. I thought i answered it.
I never said that pistols are better than barbell squat. My quote "I agree its not as usefull as barbell squat, but not useless."
So it annswer why sportsmen use barbel squat - because barbell squats are better to gain strength :)

But
1 I have no barbell.
2 From all variants without barbell (or ketlebells) pistol squat just the better choise.
3 I do not know what RKC/SF doing, i am not from them, and in Russia pistols are just standard drill for legs wich did absolutely all on phisical education lessons in school. So when appeared question what to do for legs in my situation, answer was obvious.

And i repeat, i am not a sportsman, my goals are different from theirs.

And as for PRESS, i did it.
It is like some isolation move, feelings were that i am doing something useless and stupid.
Maybe some sportsmen uses it for their sport specific goals, but i still think that PRESS is useless and stupid for home training.

Read the fucking article, where it's explained.
So, i read it.

"Research tells us that the spine loses 17% of its ability to resist flexion after repetitive rounding. That means if you do a workout with pistols and deadlifts, you could potentially be losing 17% of your spine's ability to resist flexion while deadlifting. Not good."

WOW!!! I am scared! :))
Do not count poor posture while working at computer, but 5-10 reps of pistol!? That is real cause of your rounded back!
And i do not even do deadlifts anyway.

So, i can ask again, what was so dangerous in that "bad" pic?
That your posture became bad because of 5 reps of pistol? :)

And in the end of article:

Remember, this article is about using the pistol for strength and conditioning training. In those applications, we should judge it by the same standards as the air squat.

In "movement training", it makes sense to allow the lumbar spine to round in a pistol. It is normal range of motion for the lumbar spine.
