2020 Goals

Post by Dunn » Tue Dec 24, 2019 6:12 pm

So it’s soon to be 2020.

Fitness:
I’m shooting for 60 reps @ 2x32kg in LC, MS numbers and do more BJJ. Hoping to get a ruck race in as well, time permitting. Other than that, there’s not much.

Other:
Finish my BS and continue growing as an network engineer.

What about you guys?

You thinking a Go Ruck or just a general self supported adventure race? I've always wanted to do something like that.
I don't have a lot of experience with vampires, but I have hunted werewolves. I shot one once, but by the time I got to it, it had turned back into my neighbor's dog.

Not bad. Dunno if the timing will work since it’s so close. It’s definitely close enough.

keep progressing with bodyweight stuff, no big goals but just measurably stronger.
Ultrarunning/walking has waned a bit, very few races in 2019 (on purpose) but will step up the game just a little - at least 2 50ks, 50+ miles in a 24 hour event and toe the line for a 100 again possibly. Also racewalk marathon distance under 5:45
Adding snatch training into the mix and would like to get back to the 24k - maybe hit SS test for 100 reps in 5. So mainly, just having fun, staying fit and trying some different things

1. Cardio 2-3x a week
2. Yoga 2-3x a week
3. Get in a barrel surfing and come out of it
4. Be a better personal trainer (probably related to creating plans and sticking with them)

Do you think a fit runner/cyclist that does a good bit of BW and KBs for strength work could hike the 50 miler without too much trouble? The one in Atlanta is just a ruck march, not a cadre with a bunch of cals. Seems like a fun thing to do, and that's a good time of year to hike around this city.

AEN, I think there are two components to getting physically ready for the Star Course. One is aerobic capacity, and if you’re accustomed to lots of running/biking LSD, you’ll probably have that covered. In Goruck lore, the rule of thumb that people circulate is that you should work up to a 40-mile hike in training and you’ll be read. I think that’s right.

The other component is foot readiness, and I think that’s where most of the failures happen. (Shit, I was at a Heavy where three people dropped out from foot trouble in the first twelve miles. I think they were Crossfitters who hadn’t dialed in their sock/shoe combinations and foot care.) You’re a runner so you probably know about this shit, but I didn’t so I read Jon Vonhof’s book Fixing Your Feet, figured out taping and moisturizing and lubing my feet, and spent a long time getting all my gear exactly right: socks & shoes, underwear, tights, and Bodyglide.

I’ve got a dozen long-winded opinions about how to do a Star Course (route selection, crew arrangements, fueling, etc.) and I’ll happily go on about them ad nauseam like, but here’s just one: stay off concrete sidewalks AMAP. The pounding adds up. Even asphalt is way better.

Get consistently below 210lbs. Do 230+ workouts. PRs in BP, Box squats, and rucking. Complete all rehab.

Re the snatch, can recommend the A+A strongfirst approach - not for the supposed magical cardio benefits - purely for the fact that 5 reps on the minute for 20 minutes is a very easy way to get 100 reps in without breaking a sweat, and after a few weeks of doing that a couple of times a week, the bell feels a lot lighter and you’d probably be close to knocking off the 100 reps goal pretty quickly. I might have to try that again soon.

Also doing sets of 100 non stop with a lighter kb... 20/20/15/15/10/10/5/5 is a good way to knock it out quickly and better mentally than sets of 10 etc

Build my sailboat, fly the checkride for my single engine CFII and start instructing, get back to regular workout of 7 rounds of heavy bag at 300+ strikes per round (3 minute rounds). And of course biking and rucking and paddleboarding and skiing.

My goal is to continue my weight loss and quest for general physical health. Where ever I end up, I end up. No numbers. Nothing specific in the gym. Just some form of physical activity each day. Nothing specific with my sport, but I would like to be better than I was.

To understand my path, I was 307 at the end of July 2018. I had an endurance based event that required performing 4 disciplines back to back. Then repeating the race if you beat your opponent 15 minutes later in a bracketed system. Won my first race, goofed up my second race and got nipped by 1/2 a second. Then only 6 minutes to rest before the third race - 36 minutes total time. Could not complete the third race Lost about 30 minutes of my life and when I finally came to, I looked at my wife and said "enough, I'm done being big." 30 days of whole 30, lost 17 pounds. 30 more days of whole 30, lost 13 more. Modified my eating to something that sustained me at 277 for a good 6 months through my competitive season. Finally upped the game after my season was over (10/10/19) and have lost 20 more doing intermittent fasting, training fasted, and doing LD cardio every third day. Basically have a shake to break the fast, then have a second shake 5 to 6 hours later, then have a festive feed for about an hour; then resume the fast. Works out to anywhere from 2,000 to 3,000 calories a day, which is a good 2,000 to 1,000 deficit for what I'm doing. Enjoying the sauna, fasting, being hungry all the time, and the one big meal at the end of my work day that is a bit of a religious experience. Whatever it takes, I'm sticking to the path.
The cool thing about training is that becoming more sexy is just a side effect........

Nice job RBSG.

I aim to lose 15 lbs by April 1st by dialing in my diet, cutting out booze, running on my new treadmill (much easier on my knees than ground), walking my dog, and doing some weight training 3 days a week.

After that, I will be focused on maintaining that for the rest of the year if not losing another 10 lbs over the next 9 months.

Today, I am 164.7 lbs.

Goal for 2020 is adherence.

Over the year:
- 250 sessions
- 150km run
- 1,500 working squat reps
- 2,000 working press reps

IF as many days as possible. Work towards cutting our bread and sugar.

For me it would be completing a long walk without having to take a shit in someone's yard.
