Needle in a haystack grip routine request but here goes

Post by Bennyonesix1 » Thu Jul 23, 2020 2:34 pm

Years ago a poaster named Climber51 (Climber plus two digits userid) poasted a routine used by Russian speed climbers somewhere. Prob wasn't here. I had it on my old beater laptop (IBM Thinkpad because I am a king) and used it to great (for me) results. But I can't access it anymore. Anyone remember this?

It had a sequence of moves performed in a circuit.

The stress was on heavy wrist rotations and as heavy as possible standing cheat finger curls (bar held to front w curl grip).

If you don't remember this (and you prob don't) any more routines from speed climbers RUSSIAN or otherwise would be appreciated.

I'm thinking it was at Draper's site but honestly I don't know.

Thanks.

climber511 is the user, but he hasn't been active here since 2014. A google search of his username shows activity on other boards related to grip and climbing, in addition to that blog.

"climber511

The exercise I'm talking about is different than that - I stand in a power rack with the bar on pins just above knee level. Reach down and grab the bar with hands in a curl position. Grab the bar - stand up - keeping arms straight, lower the bar by uncurling the fingers . Lower the bar as far as you can without dropping it - then "curl" with just your fingers until your hand is closed all the way again - repeat."

This was the core exercise for speed climbers he said. But he had recommended doing them as cheat as you could and as heavy as you could.

FOUND IT THANKS TO KAZ LOVE YOU BRO

"In a very general sense – TUT (time under tension) is one of the best ways to make “growth” happen. Again in a very general sense resistance levels somewhere close to 80% of 1 rep max weights are best for this purpose. A so called “light pump” or one done with low weight and higher time periods do not work as well for this purpose as do weights heavy enough only a moderate number of reps can be done. The best workout I have done in the past was called Power Forearms and was put out by Health for Life a few decades ago.

This program is done non stop, no rest is allowed between sets or movements.
· Wrist twists with pipes – arms straight – a warm up
· Wrist twists with pipes – arms bent – a warm up
· Wrist Curls – 6 reps
· Reverse wrist curls – 8 reps
· Wrist Curls – 6 reps
· Reverse wrist curls – 8 reps
· Behind the back Wrist Curls – 6 reps
· Reverse curls – 8 reps
· Behind the back Wrist Curls - 6 reps
· Reverse curls - 8 reps
· SED Wrist Abductions - 8 reps
· SED Wrist Adductions - 8 reps
· SED Wrist Supination and Pronation - 8 reps (rotations)
Notes: Wrist twists with pipe are a simple warm up exercise. SED means single ended dumbbell or what we call lever work (can be done with a sledge hammer). Done to the front, rear; then lay your arm on a bench and do lever twist or rotational work.
No more than three times a week – two is better.
Level II
· Wrist twists with pipe
· Wrist Curls – 8 reps
· Reverse Wrist Curls – 8 reps - do 4 super sets
· Behind the back wrist curls – 8 reps
· Reverse Curls – 8 reps - do 4 super sets
· SED Abductions – 8 reps
· SED Adductions – 8 reps
· SED Wrist Twists – 8 reps
In Level 1 the reps were 6 on the Wrist Curls and Behind the Back wrist curls – 8 on the rest.
You should use a weight that keeps you at the edge of failure at the end of each set. This thing is “Hard” – if you use the right weights. Value for climbing? Completely unknown but for size gains – it does work.
The “pump” does feel different than you get climbing though.

I used to do “Finger Curls” on alternate days. I tried to go as heavy as possible on the finger curls. Use a Power Rack set just below fingertip level and a “curl” grip – this allows you to cheat by rolling the bar up your thighs for some help and lowering it negatively for additional reps. I think they were a great exercise for climbing back when Todd was talking about them and very few hang boards - system boards etc were being used. As good as the current training methods - not real likely but for the time maybe not so bad and they could be used in a commercial(non climbing)gym on vacation etc I suppose.

All this is from a "lifter" point of view of course. But the information in theory could be of value."

This was what I had but from somewhere else and he mentioned speed climbers more. The Todd dude is a famous climber.

Well, think of a 21st Century wrist roller. You can work flexion and extension at the same time, unlike a traditional dowel/rope/weight set up.

HUh, ok. I spent all my play money on guns this month so I'll have to take your word for it.

You betcha: https://palmettostatearmory.com/sig-sau ... 52001.html

I used my buddy's a while back at the range and was getting beautiful grouping at 100 yards with no practice, first time out. Made it clear what a valuable addition it could be.

20 guage. No ego here and i can get off more shots more accurately. But the over/under is pure aesthetics and shooting pleasure.

THANKS!

That's cool. Lots of little technique tips in the performance of those exercises.

Good stuff.

Thanks again.
