YRG FB+ 60 min.
Killed me. Had to modify the ten second push up, but got my hands to grasp on both sides of wrap and burn.
Also completed awkward airplane with no modifications.

YRG Fat Burner 40 min. Seemed really easy. Maybe it was the interruptions. I dunno.

Softball, beer, pizza tonight.

Things are in flux right now. Gut was bothering me all weekend, so really no chance to train. Last night, couldn't get my YRG in before basketball, so I was playing without a good warm up.
Still, got in 1.5 hrs of ball. Couldn't make a shot, but plenty of jostling and posting up. Had some good rebounds as I continue to mix it up with the kids.

The gut felt shaky before the games, but once I started playing all was fine. Today things seem back to normal.
Not sure what brought this on, but it was annoying.

Thursday had the worst lower back spasm in recent memory. By Friday I was able to move and do some work.
So, Friday looked like this:
15 min warm up on the elliptical; YRG standing series 1 in the gym's group class room; off to softball where I had no problems hitting, running, and throwing.

Today: 4-6-09
Pitched batting practice to my girls; 40 min YRG; now off to play basketball.

This YRG does work miracles if you do it.

YRG Fat Burner. Must be warm in the room. Sweating buckets today.
That or all the beer I drank this weekend.

Bikram Yoga, 90 min at the 9:00 am class in Fullerton. Great to get back in the heat after being away for so long.
I've been asked the difference between Bikram and YRG, and now that I've gone back to Bikram, I can say they are truly complimentary. Where YRG lacks a variety of poses, Bikram makes up for it. Where Bikram does no arm supported poses and has no flow (so to speak), YRG has the upward/downward dog variations and a general vinyasa to it.
YRG is stronger on calisthenics; Bikram is stronger on endurance and the mental aspect of yoga.

I'm sticking with both for now. The session today really put me through a detox. Funny little chemistry changes the same as last time I went.

Hiking and bouldering in Red Rock Canyon outside of Vegas. Very nice day.
Kids loved climbing and going over the boulders. Went for about an hour, then little legs got tired.
Good break from losing money at the casino.

Funny, the resort is like 30 miles in the opposite direction. Nonetheless, the canyon was stunning and the boulders were surprisingly easy to get up and down, even for my kids.

Coached my girls' softball team in 100 degree heat for about an hour before we all expired.
At home, a brief YRG session using the fat burner (about 30 min.) to get loose for basketball. Later, 1.5 hrs of basketball.
The gym was like an oven once we got going. About 20 bodies playing 2 games generates some heat. Temp outside on the way home was 84 (at 8:45 p.m.)

I was feeling tired when I got home from practice, but I decided to try the YRG to see if I could get a boost. It worked. Mentally and physically, I seemed to wake up just doing the warm ups, one standing series, the broken table series, and the finisher. Good stuff indeed.

YRG FB+. Done at the end of the day, so a little extra tired.
Coaching a fastpitch team and the heat of the past couple of days has taken its toll. Cooler today and only hit infield and outfield. Threw batting practice for 2 straight days and the shoulder needed rest.

Rode the bike over to the parking garage for a little urban assault workout.

4 times up the stairs with sets of 4 hill sprints at the top of each climb. Also threw in some Zercher carries with the 60# parking post (I'm guessing it's 60#, feels about that) and some up dog/down dog vinyasas and Hindu squats at the end of each round.

Felt good. Haven't done this in a while.

Tired. Not enough sleep and busy at work.
25 min of the YRG FB just as a warm up before basketball. Going to go easy tonight as the knee is flaring up.

Bikram Yoga, 90 min.

Felt tight and sore going in; hot and flexible going out. Good class.
Pushed it.

Back on Friday, 5-1-09
New YRG FB. Only 27 min. as opposed to the 40 min original. Faster pace, more back bending (a plus), and a few new moves. Overall, a solid product again.
After that, played a double header where I had to run for one of my teammates. Lots of running by the end of the second game. Won the league championship. Drank beer.
Good times.

YRG "Below the Belt." Nice workout. More challenging yoga poses and you spend a longer time in the lunging positions.
You also sweat like a muthafucka (gangster lingo, yo).

Hey Mick.
Been busy having a life. Not to sound snide or anything, but just took the summer off to tend to the kids and their various needs like practices, training, and entertainment. Plus things around here got kinda "same ol', same ol'." So I laid low.

Training has been inconsistent, but I have stuck to my three main principles: yoga, sprinting, and shit (whatever strikes me as interesting). This has meant a few Bikram classes, some YRG and other yoga, sprints when I can work them in, and lots of outdoor work. I've taken up hiking in the foothills around OC to the point where I was probably cougar bait a couple of times. I also climbed up a 100 ft sand dune a bunch with my daughter's volleyball team.

Now, I'm mixing work with "twinkie weight" dumbbells, sprints, and yoga to see where it takes me. I'm also messing around with Vitamin D starting today. That's why I looked up my log. I want to use this to track my experiences with Vit D as I go along.

So, today, 4000 IU Vit D3 with water on a mostly empty stomach. Training tonight before son's goalie clinic.
To be continued.

4000 IU Vit D3 at around 8:30 am.
Yesterday felt a little strange about an hour after taking the D and thought it may affect the rest of the day.
It didn't, really.
Hit the gym around 3:45 after a nap I thought would be about 10 min turned into a half hour. So that's something.
Felt good at the gym through the w/u on the elliptical. Did one of the ab g-d/Javorek DB complexes for 3 rounds with little rest.

Last night, went to bed exhausted. Slept verry soundly and had vivid dreams for the first time since I quit taking the ALA/ALCAR combo. Waking up was hard to do. I am thinking of mixing in the ZMA again just because it also helps my sleep and allows me to wake up more refreshed.

Catching up:
Tuesday went to the gym for light cardio on the bike and some RDL's to stretch the hammies. Feeling the DOMS from last week's running and the Jaroveks on Monday.
Wed. took the Vit D at around 8:30 (4000 IU). Walked 2.6 miles and did mobility work while the kids were at soccer practice.
Today: took 2000 IU of Vit D at 8:30 and will take the second dose in the afternoon. I have a feeling the bio-absorbtion is low when 4000 IU are taken at once. Thus far, no real huge difference in feel, but my sleep is lights-out.

It continues.

It helps when taken with fat. Fat helps with the absorption.

That's one point where I had some confusion. The last article I read said the opposite; take with low-fat foods to prevent absobtion blocking. Then again, that article was written by T-Bag's resident douche, Shugart, so it is suspect at best.

I'm also going to try gelcaps next time since I found them at a low price at Fresh & Easy market.

OK, Thursday: split the dose morning/afternoon. I found that this may help. My energy in the gym was good to great once I warmed up. The legs felt heavy as I warmed up, but after about 3 min., everything was good.
As I went through the Javorek routines, I felt fine and only stopped because I had to meet up with the wife to carpool to my daughter's volleyball match. Sleep is still pretty sound. Going to bed at 11 and waking at 5:30 with no interruptions at all. I almost never do that.

Planning on some YRG after work for today.

Weekend update.
Saturday was take a kid to soccer day, so no unusual activity.

Sunday, got up and hiked in Santiago Oaks Regional Park. Did about 3 miles in 80 degree weather. Lots of elevation gain and drops. The Vit D seems to help with recovery and overall energy levels. I was a bit hungover for the hike, but had no problems at all.

Still breaking up the dose to morning/afternoon and seems to work well. I did have trouble sleeping Sunday night/Monday morning, but I attribute that to the amount I had to drink on Sunday more than anything else.

Skipped the gym yesterday and walked along the hiking path at my son's goalie practice. Stopped at each lap and worked in some vinyasas to get the kinks out.
