Back to bjj!

Open mat- rolling with my brown belt project, Ryan. I am playing purely bottom game, sweeping or subbing and returning to bottom. Although we did play with some Pedro Sauer and Luis Heridia passing concepts as shown on a recent TWIBJJ. Really trying to smooth out my back takes and stay composed at every moment of the game.
Advanced class was an analysis of questions posed from the recent competitors at Five grappling. We covered an omoplata escape to a triangle, passing the open guard and avoiding the pass by pivoting into turtle for a low single. Several rounds of sparring including a visiting tough guy from a catch wrestling background out east. It felt really good to be back on the mats!

Bjj and judo for 2 hours. Was sparring another black belt who summarily tapped me like a typewriter. That was very humbling. Which is why I love jiujitsu.

I am waaaaaay behind on my logging. I am still training, but I managed to severely sprain or slightly fracture my right thumb. I am tightening the diet back up. I am meditating and yoga'ing every single day. I will do as much to maintain my log here, but I may have to take a break due to work and personal responsibilities.

I will post what I can when I can.

2014.11.11

Open mat- rolling with a variety of people from big to small playing mostly open guard and half guard. Not attacking anything just keeping uke honest. Got a good sweat. Still struggling with my hip. Professor's class was a neat kata guruma set up using the lapel. Next was attacks from the back into a bow and arrow choke and a variation of a clock choke. Sparring to follow.

2014.11.12

A feel like a misaligned mess. Lots and lots of work stress right now. Cervical and thoracic spine feel way out of line. Hip is messed up. Did a bunch of restorative yoga then I did a couple of twists at work and it sounded like a cork gun going off. Somewhat better, but I think I will be booking an appt. to the mt and chiro here soon, if not then a bunch of rolling and correctives. Bamboo gods, Iron Men and Rubber Bands to the rescue.

“There is something to be learned from a rainstorm. When meeting with a sudden shower, you try not to get wet and run quickly along the road. But doing such things as passing under the eaves of houses, you still get wet. When you are resolved from the beginning, you will not be perplexed, though you will still get the same soaking. This understanding extends to everything.” ― Yamamoto Tsunetomo, Hagakure

2014.11.13

So tonight was a mixed bag. Got to train no-gi with a close friend that I haven't seen in 2 years. He was the guy who originally started our gym before Marcos came. Got his blue and purple from Royce himself. It was a great session until gi class when I smashed my thumb (the other one), bruised my foot, one of our guys shoved me into a wall (on purpose) and another guy tried to take my head off. BJJ is such a beautiful frustration. Oh yeah, somebody tore my gi to shreds during standup stuff.
*sigh*

He got really zealous during standup randori. He is a big fat bully and thinks that he can shove everyone around unscathed. He shoved me and the next time we gripped I sasae tsurikomi ashi'd him into the next zip code. He then learned manners and calmed down.
