This weekend I spent a few hours in a class on Israeli pistol methods. I went because I wanted instruction on point shooting. The class was fun, but I was a little disappointed that it focused more on the draw/cock/shoot method than on improving our point-shooting.

Yesterday,
DL: 3x(185, 205, 225, 225, 225)
BSS: (11/11, 8/8, 7/7)x35
DB MP: (8, 5, 3)x35
DB PP: (7, 5, 4)x35

This morning I did a pull-ups (7, 5, 3), followed by a couple of sets with my palms facing inward. Then I did some light JS shoulder stuff.

Well that's the thing about "Israeli Pistol method". In a Nation that prides itself on it's own Hands to hand systems and perticipation in other martial arts, they are crazy about not having their weapon used against them to the point of advocating an un chambered carry (There are some good points to this.) even though their enemeis are decently gun savy themselves.

BTW I just read there will be a little Pink! Congrats!

Apparently they were also worried about drop-fires from poorly maintained surplus weapons and having one method to teach everyone regardless of what pistol they were assigned. Since I always practice with the same pistol and I regularly replace the firing-pin spring, I'm not worried about either.

Thanks for the congratulations. We're looking forward to the arrival of our little girl.

It's been a busy few weeks since my last log entry. I've been traveling a lot, and then came down with a cold as a result; but I haven't been sedentary. I still commute by foot, and I've been sporadically playing with rubber bands and doing push-ups. When in town, I've been good about hitting the makiwara each night after work.

This past Sunday, I hit the makiwara for 5 minutes, practiced Teki Shodan for 5 minutes, and then beat on my heavy bags for 15 minutes.

DL: 3x(185, 205), 2x225, 1x(255, 275). I got close to lockout with 295 when it started slipping out of my left hand.
DB MP: (8, 5, 3)x40.

Pull-ups: 7. Then I quit because pull-ups continue to hurt my elbow. I need to find a grip or another exercise that doesn't hurt.

Pinky, try and massage your infraspinatus (bottom half of your shoulder blade) on your bum elbow side. I've had some good luck with clients using that. You can use a smith machine bar loaded with a few plates and rake the shoulder blade to break up trigger points.

Also, maybe decrease the upper back work to every other session. If trigger points are the cause, hitting the upper back every time can be causing/exacerbating the situation -- substitute a lower body or core

Training looks good too brosefen

Bram,
Thanks. That's interesting advice. I'll play around with it at home.

I had been viewing this as all forearm-related.

I took it easy last week. I had several nights of inadequate sleep and felt under the weather. All I've done since my last log entry, other than my usual walking, was a little KB and karate stuff on Saturday.

Today, 1/18
Squat: 3x(135, 155, 175, 155, 175, 155, 175, 155).
Floor Press: 5x95, (8, 5, 3)x135.

Incline DB BP: (7, 5, 4)x40.
DB Row: (7/7, 5/5, 4/4)x75.
Pulls to Face: (12, 9, 7)x120.

DL: 3x(185, 205, 225, 245)
Rack pulls: 245, 265, 295. The bar slipped out of my hands at 315. Then I did 295 again.
DB MP: (5, 4, 3)x45.
I had very little left in the tank, so I quit at this point.

My wife is at 37 weeks now. I'm starting to have moments of skepticism wrt my goal of pulling 320 before the kid comes. At least I know I need to work on my grip.

I started to come down with a cold just as things started getting more busy preparing for the baby (and for visiting family), and fell off the wagon as far as working out goes. For now, I'm going to stick to workouts I can do in a half hour or so before everyone else in the house wakes up.

This morning, I warmed up with Tekki Shodan. Then I did 4 2-minute rounds on the heavy bag with 30 seconds of rest, followed by about 5 minutes of work on mae geri against my lighter bag. I finished with C&P: (5/5, 4/4, 3/3)x24 kg.

I did a similar workout last Saturday, but otherwise I've just been walking to and from work and hitting the makiwara.
