A year out from surgery....

Bench Press 70 kg x 10 a couple days ago (what a puss)

squatted 140 kg for 3 today, not horrible I suppose. I think i'd be back to squatting what I was before I got hurt if I actually ever squatted. It makes me sore and unable to ride my bike which is actually fun. definitely more fun that standing in a dingy corner grinding out 400lb squats. So i guess i'm not really angry about that. Swung a 32 for 50 reps.

Been hitting the bag, riding my bike, surfing sporadically; benching and doing abs and curlz at the gym mostly. Lots of cable rows, db rows, and kaiser pulldowns.

As my friends and wife tell me, I actually look pretty good, I'm definitely skinnier and the rehab/prehab stuff has gotten me to look less like an ogre. I just feel small and weak (because I am small and weak). I feel like a chump at the gym and am constantly comparing myself to my previous self and/or other people. It's frustrating, mentally. I've seen a lot more people who are "obviously on juice" over the last year, LOL. The same people I'd previously see and think "nice beach muscles, queer". Now I'm smaller and weaker, boo fuckin hoo.

Either way, California is fucking awesome. I can drive to a sweet surf break and awesome MTB trails in 10 minutes and it never snows. Lifting weights and getting strong is obviously for east coast meatheads with no shredding skillz!!!

Been a while... My son was born at the beginning of January. Hes one good looking little shit machine.

Had maybe 2 gym sessions over the next 2 months so I quit. Place was too expensive for me not being able to lift heavy shit anyway, i wasnt using any of the stuff that justified the price. Plus there were never any smokes in there. Been doing pushups at home sporadically but i need to find something cheap to get in some quick sessions on the way home from work. Getting skinnyfat.

Riding my singlespeed 25-30 miles, 5k ft of vertical a week over 2 rides.

Surfed once or twice, need to get out more.

Not sleeping much thanks to my newborn hippo, but im loving bein a dad.

Monday 6/13 was my first day back at the gym... had maybe been twice in 2016 through end of Feb so I quit my old spot Just joined up LA Fitness. It's been a while since I was in a huge corporate-y big-box gym. Dudes are obviously annoying, it being LA, there seems to be a lot of "look at me" behavior. However, the LA chicks make it so worth it. Plus, it's like 25% of what I was paying before.

Did some prehab work, rolling, stretching, etc. Then 3x 10 pushups, 10 deadbug, 10 birddogs. then some curls and lawnmower rows.

they have heavy bags, mat area, squat racks, dumbbells up to like 150, benches, tight bums and bigass titties, etc. It'll work out fine. Only thing that sucks is that they have those hex plates and I can't stand deadlifting w/ them. Haven't deadlifted since i got injured so that's not really a problem.

Not hating, but I also forgot how weak normal people are after lifting in what I'd consider close to a "hardcore" gym for the last few years. Fucking people collapsing in the hole with 95 lb squats. Maybe saw one guy repping 2 wheels on the bench. I'm not even going to feel weak in there if I can only use one plate. I know I shouldn't care about this.

GET SWOLE MOTHERFUCKER! :drinkers: :drinkers: :drinkers: :drinkers:

Did 10 rounds of 2 minute Bas on the heavy bag today. It was a little rough after the 6th. Definitely skipped some combos.

Holy fuck, this was stupid to do as a "welcome back to squatting" workout. I am still sore 6 days later and almost couldn't ride this morning. Had to use the handicap rail in the shitter for days 2-4.

I did manage an upper body session on Thursday ...

Bench 135 x 10 x 3
Kneeling one arm cable pulldown rows 3x10
3 rounds
10 pushups
30 birddogs
20 deadbug
10 curls @ 27.5 and 30,strict, focusing on keeping shoulders back and down

LA is a giant slab of concrete and stucco, which is kinda shitty, but the proximity of awesome beaches and mountains can't be beat.

Took a week off, sick baby, wife traveling. Rough. Rode Saturday, 15 miles, 3000 ft but that's it.

week of 10/10
M: BP 165x5x5 + Cable rows; OHP 95x8,8,6 + lawnmower pulls 65lbs x 8; 3 rounds: curls, kneeling 1arm cable pulls, 10 pushups
T: squat 275x5x5; 3 rds goblet sq 100x10 + RDL 85sx8
W: Off - work event
R: Sore; roll, stretch, etc. Bas Rutten 2/1 minute rounds x 10; Row 1 min @ 18,20,22,24,26 then max 500m
I think the rower is fucked up, i can feel the rope slipping (not a c2) against the pulley. I was pulling the 500 HARD like 1:35-1:42 for the first 300 or so, then did a power 10 and dropped to around 1:48 for the last 100. I barely broke 2 minutes, weird.
F: BP 135x10, 155x8, 175x4, 185x2x5 + DB Row 85x8x8; 3 rounds - suitcase carry, birddog, deadbug, pushupsx10; curls
S: ride- 16.7 m/ 2200 ft singlespeed

So one of my college buddies posted a FB challenge to hit 44 workouts in the 11 weeks ending at the end of Feb. I hit the 44th workout on Feb 28th. Basically Bench/Row on Mondays, Squat on Tuesdays, Off on Wed, Heavy bag Thursdays, Light BP/Pull or RDL Fridays, Ride Saturdays, Off Sundays.

Over this time period I backed off my squat to 225x5x5 and worked up to 315x5x5; my BP is stalling due to nerve issues on my right side but I can get 185 for 5 or 6 reps. Last Friday I did 135x10x10, pretty happy about that, last 3 sets were difficult. I also hit a 365 squat for a single last week, it wasn't perfect but it was good. Progress for sure.

Gonna get back to logging here.

Week of 3/6

M: DBBP 70s x 8,8,8,8 missed some reps w/ right arm + Cable row; Incline BP 135x8x3 + Lawnmower 65x10; 3 rounds of 10 pushup, birddog, deadbug, curls; Suitcase carries @ 75lb
T: OFF
W: Ride SS, 13.7 miles 2330 ft. Couple climbs that I wasn't ready for; need to get back to 2 rides/week
R: Off
F: 3 rounds BP 165x10 + DB Row 85x10; 7 Rounds of Bas
S: Ride SS 13.3m; 1840 ft fun ride, cleaned a fairly rocky climb for the first time.
S: walked about 6 or 7 miles

I've gotten fat. Not like huge fat, just sloppy fat. Love handles, little paunch. Tight pants. Completely due to drinking and eating like shit. My wife and I have been boozing it up after my son goes to bed. She is still skinny and for some reason gains no weight, ever. I'm fortunate in that regard. I'm going to stop drinking during the week and get in on some intermittent fasting or at least cut out breakfast and have a meal replacement bar for lunch for a week or two. Usually helps a lot. Also got in a cream/sugar habit in my coffee which i've dropped. Also need to drop the bread/gluten for a little while. Our plan is to keep it clean Sunday - Thursday. we'll see how that goes. I've probably lost a few pounds already (since last week) but will weigh and try to keep stats. Haven't been on a scale yet but I'm guessing i was up to about 210-215 or so; I'm normally around 200. Hopefully now that the rains seem to be passing I can ride more too.
