Mon Mar 19 - sleeeeep after overnight.

Tues Mar 20
Noon jitsu. Drilled attacks when uke, in the turtle, has picked one of your legs - a triangle, a rear choke, and an interesting juji gatame that I am going to have to drill about 500 more times before I feel solid with it.

Been a busy past week, with work, in-laws visiting, my family visiting, and my boy's 6th birthday all converging. So, not as much work out time as I would have liked, but meh.

4.10
Noon jitsu. Drilled taking the back when uke tries to hip out of half guard, with transitions to RNC or juji gatame. Then targeted randori, starting from half-guard with the goal for top to escape half, and bottom to maintain half or take the back.

Fri Apr 13
Absolute crap lift. BP 190 x 5, 215 x 3 (felt heavy, had an odd twinge in the shoulder), 240 x 1. At least I didn't have the twinge on the one rep.
Rope tricep pushdown, band assisted pullups for assist.

Sun April 15
30 min elliptical, 8 hours in ER

Tues Apr 17
Noon jitsu. Drilled a guard pass / counter to the counter-tornado sweep, that ended in either N-S choke or a funky ude garame from the side. Free roll after, my keylocks and paper cutters were flying like mad.

Thurs May 10
GI bug = not deadlift day, as originally planned. Not without a workout area that could easily be hosed down.
8 hours in ER - no CPR, sprints to the trauma bay, or one-on-one psych patient wrasslin'. #-o

Fri May 11 - hour+ mowing the lawn with the econo-econo-prowler.

Bringing back the log. Eating for weight loss, noticing the expected drop in strength. But have been consistently under 250 for the first time since knee surgery (high of 264). Health uber strength.

Wednesday June 13th
Noon jitsu. Drilled a switch from the closed guard to a cross guard to a sweep. Not my comfort zone, but if I can work on my guard, which is really the weakest part of my ground game, sure. Free roll was a winner-stays format, winner staying in guard with a sweep, successful guard pass, or sub indicating a "win" and switching partners. Spent a goodly portion of time working my guard, and discovering that baiting a pass and turning it into a rolling sweep with sneaky arm bar finish felt more natural than a true guard sweep.

Getting the thread rolling again. No goals. No endpoints. The path is the end and the journey the goal.

Tues Dec 4, 2012
Jiu jitsu. First roll in a while. Warm up drills, including a triangle drill that I think perhaps maybe might give me some insight on this most miserable of my techniques. A couple of light rolls, with the guy on bottom playing simply a defensive game. Then free rolls in groups of three. One in guard, the other two alternating every minute for four rounds. More and more, I've realized that my best game is setting traps from the turtle. My guard is not strong, and my frontal assault, while strong, is somewhat predictable. Contemplation.

Judging from your pictures, you are not well designed for triangles (I'm not either). I find that cross lapel chokes, armbars, and omoplatas are a better choice from closed guard than trying to be something you're not. JMO.

Yep, I have embraced my hobbit-esque physique and am pretty comfortable writing triangles off my list of skillz.
Wed Dec 5, 2012
BW 253
Noonjitsu. Just Professor Fernando and myself, so started with a light roll and increased the intensity as we got warm. He is 5'nothing and 130lbs, so I am not quite two of him. Several implications, but today's theme was that he can get butterflies in from just about any stack I put him into. Interesting 20 minute roll until he aggravated an old rib injury. I swear, I don't think I crushed his cage, but I hate it when I roll with smaller dudes and they end up hurt. Nothing bad, but we called it an afternoon, not seeing a need to tempt fate.
