Thurs Apr 18
BW 245
Mowed half the lawn before the damn thing cut out on me.

Fri - Sat Apr 19-20
To and fro Miami for an investigators' meeting. Crap sleep (drunken domestic disturbance until 1am in the hotel room next to me), long meeting, crappy travel on either end. The food was tasty though, although whoever thought a buffet of fruits and muffins = breakfast is barking mad.

Sun April 21
Bench: 170 x 5, 195 x 5, 220 x 4. Yep, that's a wall. Finished up the lawn (hills, no-drive push mower) while contemplating. I have a lot of travel over the next month, and the ability to keep to any template will be poor. I think I will scrap this 531 cycle barely born. Cardio, circuit weights, it will depend on what's around. Hell, there's even free hot yoga at the neighborhood Y. And of course, mat time if it shows its leprechaun self. My deadlift and TB dead lift are well set in terms of achieving extra reps on the last sets, so I will come back to current numbers on those. Bench will step back a couple of rounds, see what there is.

Mon April 22
30 min elliptical

Wed June 5
Noon-jitsu. Drilled basic scissor sweep vs. scissor with leg kick out, flow to top mount underhand choke, and maintaining when bumped back to your guard. Basic stuff for a couple of rookies, not much exertion, so YRG when I got home.

Heh. I have to say I never feel as broken after jits as I did after judo. However, in the summer, when the kids don't have to go to bed so early, I am planning on returning to the evening judo classes.

The end of summer approaches. I have done a fair amount of traveling, some business, some family vacation. Got my blue belt in BJJ. Played around with a little TKD (Father's Day promotion at the place my kids go). Almost no weights, but some cardio. Now that traveling is done, I can actually return to some sort of programmed work with 531, dropping the weights back to see how much I lost over the summer.

Sun Aug 11
BP 155, 175, 200 x 7. Rope tricep, band assist pullups for assist. Later, mini-mini prowler lawn mowing in 91 degree heat for an hour or so.

Mon Aug 12
Jiujitsu 1 hour, judo 1 hour 20. Jits was focused on training a couple of escapes from a loose side control, leading to either a limp arm out to taking the back or a side sacrifice sweep. Judo - after a couple hundred uchi komi, it figured that my first practice I could make in 6 months, they train ground work - sankaku turn-overs, which with these hobbit legs of mine is not one of my favorite techniques. Which, on the other hand, means I could use the practice.

Wed Aug 14
BW 244
RDL: 220 x 5, 250 x 5, 280 x 7. Right knee got jacked somewhere in the last two days, so the initial pull off the ground was more "hips high" than I like. My low back is, as a consequence, complaining as I type this. Trap bar DL and EZ bar curls as assist work, followed by walking the dog and grilled steak (garlic powder, smoked paprika just before it hit the grill).

NAGA, NC Nov 2. Masters Blue belt superheavy. Somewhat disappointing, I beat the #2 finisher, he beat the #3 guy, and that was it. Would have liked to roll more for the $ I spent. Can't argue the win, though. After a couple of attempts to get my opponent moving with leg sweeps / reaps, I caught him pushing in with a soto makikomi. From there, two-on-one kesa gatame, attempted the americana on the trapped arm, transitioned around to an off center north south and choked him from there.

Need to get out of superheavy if I am going to keep doing this again. 245# vs. 300# vs. 285#. I could see that math going badly sometime.
