Revenge of the Cyst

Post by The Ginger Beard Man » Fri Jan 27, 2012 10:10 pm

I've been bad. Gave up my gym membership at the end of July and have been terribly inconsistent ever since. No time, no plan, no goals. I've managed some half assed workouts with kettlebells and bodyweight and mostly have been wasting my time. Two moves, two job changes and at least one more move to come. But I need to train for something.

At the end of March, I'm attending the S&C clinic several IGx members are giving in Malvern, Pa. I also have been wanting for some time to go back to Iceland. I'm shooting for September, but we will see. When I go, I want to lift the Husafell Stone.
I have no idea if they allow schmuck tourists from the States to just walk up and have a go, anymore than I have any reason to think my scrawny ass is capable of budging the thing. But it's a goal, and something to work for.
Toward that end I will be trying to bump my weight up from 188 lbs to about 210 and to achieve respectability in basic lifts.

Two days ago I joined NY Sports Club with a nice corporate discount. I just had a free introductory session with a personal trainer, who was very disappointed to learn that I have no intention of actually carrying on with sessions I have to pay for. He smokes me with burpees, box jumps, kettlebell swings ("bend your knees more, more of a squat"), and some other shit. I will be sore tomorrow, and then next week I can start doing shit that matters. I will be working with Dan Johns stuff, as I just bought Easy Strength and re-purchased Never Let Go. Just gonna get used to lifting again, and see how my schedule works, and then after Malvern we will see where I go.

Good Luck...all I did in Husafell was puke up Opal behind the roadhouse.

Fullsterkur requires a 50meter carry. I will be thrilled with getting it off the ground.

But if you were a little less intoxicated, could you have walked up and had a go? Or is it locked up somewhere for safe keeping from drunken Americans?

Thanks.

No. I think you need to talk to the farmer. Hit me up on FB, I have a couple SM friends from over there that could help you coordinate. There are several other manhood stones you could do as well though that are just a walk up deal.

It's gonna be a long road!

Warm up: with 45lb bar, 2 x thru, back squat, good morning, overhead press, overhead squat, bent row, hang clean, 8 reps each

Back squat: 135x3x8
Military press: 65x3x8
RDL: 135x3x8
Chins: 8x3
Stretch
-I started to do the RDLs with 185, and the first rep was too heavy. This is sad, but I want to come back smart.
-After the squats my legs were muy sore, I guess from the box jumps yesterday.
-For the next three weeks, I will build from here to get used to lifting again, then make some changes.

Take your time. Keep it simple and be consistent. It'll come back. Don't get in a hurry and don't get frustrated.

Make haste slow,so you don`t get injured. My oldest (who hasn`t trained in 6-7 months) trained last
week without asking for some advice. So it seems he did more or less the same things he used to do
with less weight obviously. The result? Couldn`t straighten his arms for nearly a week.
You`ll toughen up.Unless you have a serious medical condition commonly refered to as
"being a pussy".

1/30/12
Woke up sore again. Didn't get to do anything yesterday, but I got 8 hours sleep and had a big breakfast.

Today
Half TGUs, 35 lbs, 5R/5L followed by swings, 50 each side
I'm not sure if I can get to the gym today. I'm on a double, hopefully I get a break after lunch. If not then tomorrow is no problem.

I don't plan on logging my meals here, but as a general rule I just don't eat enough. You would think that since I work in one of the 5 or 10 best steakhouses in the world, this wouldn't be an issue. Not so. When I hit the hypertrophy part of this project, it's going to be real work to get enough food, especially protein, into me.

To be completely honest if I were in your shoes I would just keep a shit ton of meat/pasta OR chili dishes on demand. If you are anything like me I have to eat like that to gain any appreciable weight. Will some of it be goo? Of course. Will more of it be muscle? YES!

Hang clean& military press: 3x8x65 (1 clean per set)

-The weight is light on the RDLs but by the time I get to the last reps my forearms are screaming.
-Add weight next time.

2/2/12
Warm up: foam roller and complex with bar, same as previous days
Back squat: 145x3x8
Hang clean and press: 70 x3x8
RDL: 145x3x8
Chins: 5x5
Farmers walk: 50s x 2 trips around gym, not sure of distance
Stretch and bar hang
-worked out in a different and much nicer facility in Brooklyn today. I may start coming here on Thursday's and possibly one day during the week. A buddy of mine, former captain of the Hofstra football team, works out at this spot. It would be nice to have a gym partner. But first he has to recover from having both knees scoped.
-I have to fight the urge to do more and add too much weight. I feel like a pussy with the weights I'm moving. But too much too soon can leave me on the shelf. I'm not a kid anymore.

2/3/12
I had a little break between lunch and dinner. Walked over to the gym without much of a plan, just to do something light with kettlebells.

Warmup with dislocates, overhead squats, hip flexor stretch and foam roller
18kg kettlebell: TGU: 5/5, Windmill: 5/5
Stretch and out
-Was going to do some double cleans but there are no pairs of kettlebells over 14kg!
-They keep the kettlebells in the personal trainer area, so when I walked in there to see what they had, one of the personal trainers asked, "Can I help you with something?" Too bad this place by work isn't more like the Brooklyn location. More stuff to play with, and the trainers aren't dicks.

Saturday 2/4/12
Warm up with same complex; back squat, good morning, military press, overhead squat, bent row, hang clean 8 reps each, 2 times through
Back squat: 155x3x8
Hang clean and military press: 75x3x8 first two sets were one clean, third was one for each press
RDL: 155x3x8
Chins: 5x5
-Skped the foam roller and stretching because the stretching area was packed today. Skipped the farmers walk because there were way too many yuppies on bosu balls or doing agility work on some kind of rope ladder laid on the floor. No room to walk.
-I may try to get a quick workout in tomorrow, farmers walks and whatever else might move me.
