2012.11.23PM; jiu-jitsu...taught a private lesson to a four-stripe brown belt on working against a knife attack; finished with an hour of sparring against different guys, bringing in a fresh opponent when the previous one was tired.

2012.11.26PM; jiu-jitsu...rolled lightly with a purple belt coming back from an injury, he's one of the few I get to train with that can still hand it to me so I want to help him get back into condition as quickly as possible. We played light and funky, I was even hitting some deep half and 50/50, just to keep it playful (nigga!).

After that an hour of drills on passing directly into a back taking transition. This is a predominant concept in sport jiu-jitsu right now, where people are trying to move past the old step-by-step and go directly from takedowns and passes to taking the back or a submission, even just mount. Why bother with side control or knee-on-belly at all if you can move past them without stopping?

Anyway, finished it up with 20 minutes more sparring against some not very good competition and then I ended it at two hours. I have a littlle surgery tomorrow, so the next few days of training will be impaired.

As best as I was able I taught an hour of self defense techniques to my audience; the subject tonight was love for a stranger who decides that choking you, grabbing you by the neck, dragging you backwards, or even bodylocking you from behind over and under the arms in an attempt to move you is a good idea. All of this is pure Hélio Gracie Jiu-Jitsu, but reorganized per my situation-based class programming.

I went through the mechanics of falling as a warm-up because the techniques themselves involve a number of jarring throws like seoi-nage, makikomi-osoto-gari, waki-otoshi, etc. The type of throws you only see in judo books before 1945.

2012.12.01AM; iron palm...was intending to do more than this but after the last couple of snatches my right hand sprung a leak. Stupid on my part, I haven't lifted kettlebells in a while and forgot to be more careful. Now I going to put on some Black Sabbath, smoke a joint, and do taijiquan in my back yard.

One of my favorite things is to get on a local walking trail, walk 40-50 minutes to an isolated bend/alcove in the trail, and then do some Deer/Crane frolics and 9 Little heaven forms for 20 minutes and then walk back. Forces me to slow waaaay the hell down and appreciate both the day and the air and the privilege of having learned the forms.

2012.12.03PM; jiu-jitsu...did an hour of hard drilling armbar to omoplata chains, and half guard passes.

After that a half an hour of timed rounds, me playing most from half guard or open to sweep and mount. All my submissions were set up off the mount, including a nice armbar when I got blasted off mount by "da beeeg" Nuku Hivan. He's one of those athletic freaks that ripples muscle, covered in Marquesan tattoos, and could mess your whole day up. If you show him a complex chain of techniques, he can do it right away. I still fucked him up, but he did drop a huge knee on my goods which got me a brief stoppage.

2012.12.04PM; jiujitsu...rolled with a couple of intermediate level guys for an hour, just switching off when one was tired. It was a small turnout so we just made it an open mat and I played with 50/50 and half guard to take the top and smash.

Right now I'm feeling the arm bars, but I have definitely identified "the next step" counters to defenses which still need a lot of work. Once I have a sense of the strong entries and setups to a technique there still remains all the possible complications and re-counters which remain to be mastered, and all this for a single attack sequence (e.g., arm bar from mount).
