wrestling
they wrestled live for about 1 hour. I was on the mat 2:00 and then rested 2:00

10/17/13
wrestling live for the most part just take downs. then we wrestled from situations. Me and one of the coaches rotated in and out on this one kid. He is very good but young, They are thinking he will go very far at states this year, he is about 193. I am just over 199lbs. one Of the situations was he got to start with the inside cradle on me, not from the back but just before. I broke the hold and came up to my base he is very good at stopping the stand up, so I started sitting out and sitting through, he followed I did that a bunch till I could stand up. I got to a place I could stand up and did, If I was any good at rolls that was there to. When I got to my feet I realized I had small little chippes of my teeth in my mouth turned out to be from my front teeth and I had blood dripping down the back of my throat. Broke my nose again, At the time I did not think so, but, I am sporting the shadows under my eyes. Thing is it was so much fun I do not care at all about the teeth or the nose.

10/26/13, 10/27/13, 10/28/13, and 10/30/13
wrestling and working out same old junk.

11/9/13 is the wrestling tournament I am going to do. I am going to get killed, I do not think I have felt that way ever going into any kind of comp. I am in much better shape than I was when I started but not where wanted to be. lots of Hard drilling is what I need, but it kills my knees, only so many bc powders I am willing to take. there are still times I am getting 1/2 way through a move and then my mind goes blank. I am not feeling good about it at all.

11/6/13
wrestling

I hate to admit this but from the saturday before to the saturday after Halloween I went crazy I ate bags and bags of sweet tarts, pixie sticks, nerds and sprees. Ice cream and flat iron steaks were on sale and I ate a bunch of that as well. I am not going to say how much weight I put on, but I will say this week has sucked. I will make 197. I can not wait till I weigh in on friday. I am going to eat and eat then eat somemore.

11/8/13
weighed in at 193 and some change wanted to be 196 (the weight class was 197) but went over board on the cut. It worked out for the best.

11/9/13
wrestling tournament, it is a very small tournament I did not know that. They made the weight class 194, their was just 3 of us. If I would have weighed in at 195 or 197 I think they would have moved me up hw. as I thought about what I was going to write it sounds as if I am trying to down play how I did. SO LET ME MAKE IT VERY CLEAR I GOT PINNED 2 TIMES. To me their is no way to down play that.

Match 1
The kid I wrestled was 20. It was a very fast pace scramble in the first 50 seconds I would say the score was around 12 to 10 or 10 to 8 somthing like that. we Were to wrestle 3 1:30 periods after :50 in I was done. For the 2nd period he took top. it turned into scramble then he pinned me in a cradle. I could not fight out I had no fight left.

between match 1 and 2
I blew chunks. A bunch of guys around my age or older came up to me to tell me how great I did. one wile I was puking. At the time I did not get it, but after thinking about it I do. To most people 43 is old to be doing something like wrestling.

Match 2
The kid I wrestled was 20. He could not keep me on the mat but could take me down when he wanted. The pace was much better for me. In the 2nd period he pined me in the craddle

Thanks it was fun. I have two more that I want to do. I think they are about 5 or 6 months away. Training wise I am still thinking about what I did right and wrong, and where to go from here.

I feel weird asking about my training in your log, so i am doing it here. how did you get up to this - "Rolled 7 or 8 3' rds"? That is a lot, I want to get to where I can do that. I read your log but I am not sure how you got up to this. I think we put in about the same time on the mat. You might be getting 3 days on the mat? Can you give me some tips?

My rolls and your matches are two totally different animals. Fighting for takedowns is exhausting alone. Unless we are specifically training takedowns we start on the ground so that eliminates a lot of work and BJJ is a slower game than wrestling especially in the gi.

My advice is to just keep grinding it out that's all I did but I'd message Marco. His BJJ school is more wrestling than any other school I've seen. He can probably help you out.

PS - There's no shame in wearing a mouthguard, or any other pro. After 2 broken toes, I wear wrestling shoes religiously, even when I spar in gi. And when I thought I was getting Cauliflower Ears, I wore the headgear for a while.

Thanks. I was talking to my uncle last night on the phone, he said the samething about grinding it out. The words he used was, when I was in the room to push it and to stop thinking that I could train my way to keeping up with 20 year olds, but I still could be in alot better shape than I am. My uncle was a great wrestler, was his college captain and is 67 or 68 or some shit and in crazy shape. On Thanksgiving he said we would talk more. From about 8 to 19 he made me wrestle him every thanksgiving. I hope thats not what he has in mind.

I ask you this because from some of your posts before you seem to know about folk style wrestling. I was thinking about getting a few DVDs and wanted to know what you thought about a few of the series. Mark perry the claw series, Ben Askren cradles and hammerlocks and Tom Brands cross wrist series. I have a bunch of books and Gables advanced wrestling dvd.

For the past week or so I do not feel like doing anything in the gym, I keep looking up at the clock. I feel like crap. After today I have the rest of the week off and I am going to go squirrel hunting up the road from my mom's house, in The George Washinton National Forest It is going to be great. About 5 more months till it is warm enough to get back out on the river, I can not wait.
