2013.02.09AM; jiu-jitsu...helping with the kids, focused on Gracie game and a little bit of focus work on how to break someones posture when they are in the closed guard.

Later in the day I went for a 6 mile hike in the forest, picking wild avocados.

2013.02.10PM; kettlebells....again I was feeling very unmotivated today, I think I am getting a little close to the edge of over training with six days a week of jiujitsu. This is what I managed, one set at the beginning of each minute for 10 minutes.

1. Two Hand Clean & Jerk 10 x 5 @ 2 x 24 kg

2013.02.13PM; jiu-jitsu...rolled with a couple of mid-level guys as my warm up and then coached a beginner through class. Professor Quinn was giving a pretty advanced set of attacks using the gi from closed guard, a cool choke I had not seen before and an omoplata setup.

My partner was plain confused so I took him aside and we worked on a simple triangle setup to get him oriented, using the same basic methods as the rest of the class.

After that just a little more sparring and then bounced.

2013.02.15PM; jiu-jitsu...taught the six mistakes from side control class and proper positioning when you are bottom side. Finished by evaluate a new guy, rolling with him just to see how his balance, strength, etc. were.

2013.02.18PM; Bruno course, with Gotch style jump rope complex as my warm up. I have to say that I am noticing a lot of improvement in my footwork from the jump rope, although I am still a massive klutz.

2013.02.19PM; jiu-jitsu...when the professor came in to teach, everyone was deeply engaged in rolling so he just decided to play through and we sent the next two hours blissfully sparring.

I rolled continuously for an hour straight, switching out three guys to keep the opponent fresh. Most of the time I attacked from the knee on belly position, but my final opponent wasn't very sharp so I switched to closed guard, attacking constantly with omoplatas, sweeps, and sleeve drags. Fun!

2013.02.20PM; jiu-jitsu...warmed up just playing guard for a forelorn looking white belt who didn't have anyone to partner with. I just played guard while he tried to pass, and when I swept him or set him up for a submission, I just let him back up and we kept playing.

After 20 minutes of that, class was a half an hour of passing drills and another half an hour of a pop=up armbar attack, either set up off the same pass we were drilling, or off a deep half sweep that immediately transitions into the same bar.

Finished the night with just a little more sparring.

The Karl Gotch jump rope warm up is simple: 1:00, 2:00, 3:00, 2:00, 1:00 each with 30 seconds rest. It's not that hard, but it makes a great warmup and jumping rope makes me lighter on my feet.

2013.02.22PM; jiujitsu...taught class on vale-tudo guard, with all the monkey slaps, knees, axe kicks, and stomps from guard. Finished the night rolling against a big brown belt and a smaller blue belt, playing mostly open guard and 50/50.

2013.02.23AM; jiujitsu...jiujitsu with the little grommets, mostly doing different agility drills and stand up wrestling for falls. They looked like little mongols when they locked up; my son actually drew with an 8 year old girl (he's five), haha, one fall each and the last round tied. I took some of the teenagers aside and rolled with them a little, playing bottom position only.

2013.02.25PM; jiujitsu...am still feeling stiff from the barbells over the weekend. Its a small but nagging disapointment in life that, for me at least, I have never found the compatible balance between the two activities, as I enjoy them both. Today, all I felt was stiff, sore, and slow. Whatever, I will watch it and adjust as I always do. Mobilis in mobili.

Rolled a little bit, laying lay back and wait, Ryron style giving up positions just to watch how people play and figuring out the weaknesses and habits through patient observation and a total confidence in ones defensive technique.

2013.02.27PM; jiujitsu...shaking off the weird feeling of malaise I have had for the past two weeks, I had a nice couple of hours. One hour of moderate intensity rolling and, for the other hour, passing drills to back takes and a rolling entry into a bow and arrow choke.

fatty, try not to do deadlift and squats and substitute them with hindu squats and medium light snatch.
over past week and half i discovered that sq and dl are freezing my hips so that i'm almost immobile.
even the 40 pound dumbell front squat. i'm felling better with hindu squats (half hsq). if snatches make you stiff (involuntarily pun) then dont do them. do chest supported row.
