Re: Roadwork

It's been a while.

This spring and summer and beginning of fall were the absolute shits. Somewhere around April I started getting one-sided headaches and made the mistake of looking at an article on CNN about headaches you don't want to ignore. I remember the feeling of a ball of lead dropping down into my guts as I scrolled past the words 'brain tumor.' Anxiety kicked into high gear from there, worse than ever before. Started going nights without sleeping, asking folks to sub for me at the gym, trying different meds to help. BD and Syaigh reached out to me around then and I'll always remember that kindness.

Anyhow the anxiety and shit feeling kept getting worse. GI symptoms, fears of cancer, multiple tests, muscle loss, fat gain, fatigue, etc. Tests and tests and being a useless shitbum at home and at work. Looking at my kids thinking I wouldn't see them graduate primary school much less elementary, going dark with most of my friends. Started making a concerted effort to lift again over the last few weeks, and finally upped an antidepressant the other day under md's advice and those two things have seemed to turn a corner for me. Still not exactly sure what was/is going on, still using some sleep med to get me to sleep, but I am pretty confident that most of the really scary shit I was worried about has been ruled out and that things may be looking up.

Been pinging back and forth between 40-50/20 back squats at really embarrassingly low %s and this weird one power clean/three pushup thing for a bunch of rounds. And curls. And lunges for the quads which goddamn are small. Going to start rounding this back in shape over the next month.

There were a couple of threads here on anxiety and depression that I read on some rough days. If you posted in them, even if you were douchey, thank you. It made a difference.

Gracias amigo.

Thurs, Oct 13
1:45 PM training
Song--"Lit Up," Buckcherry (but I did not do any cocaine)

1) Power Clean & pushup combo: rounds of 1 power [email protected] & 3 pushups
30 rounds over the course of 14:50
2) Empty bar curls x 50, reverse empty bar curls x 25, wearing 20 lb vest
3) Left leg stepups with 10 lb plate: 3 sets of 10 to 2nd basement steps, wearing 20 lb vest

During some of the lows I read a few articles on exercise as prescription. Makes good sense right now--my #1 goal is to keep feeling better. So I am aiming to do two things:
1) 30-45 minutes daily of shit that makes me sweat
2) in the gym/basement/outside, do things I love: volume squats, cleans & pushups, dl from blocks, jog laps, prowler

That's the plan and I am giving it a 6 week run. If I don't follow through I will punch myself in the cock.

Hell yeah.

Friday, October 14
10 AM training
Song--"Seven Seals of Gloss," Jumping Bomb Girls

Hike up to the tallest point in town (not saying a ton), hike down. Getting the lay of that land again...up is enough to break a sweat and breathe hard but down is pretty blah. May need to take a circular route next time. Still, 50 degrees and sunny and New England foliage...hard to beat.

Also packing and purging today--we are moving to a house across town at the end of the month. It'll be a good move, esp for our boys. In-ground pool and hot tub. Kind of fell into our lap.

Closed on a new house today, been in and out of our basement last few days

Some airdyne, about 20-30 each time
Squat yesterday, 245 on the min--waved singles, doubles, triples depending upon what song was on, 30 reps in 11ish min.

Keeping on keeping on. Xifaxin for some intestinal shiznit, broth at night for a wind down. Epic makes some damned good broth. It's an indulgence but a tasty one.
