old guy's nothing special training log

Post by dead man walking » Mon May 30, 2016 12:39 am

29 may

14,000 meters on erg
70 mins
60-65% hr

got back to regular rowing after maple sugaring ended. since the beginning of may (and since turning 70) i've been averaging almost 1 hr/day and approx 80,000 meters (50 miles)/week.

mostly steady state, often broken into 3k-4k chunks, with a quick break. that approach is easier on my back. approx once a week i'll do a "trial," 5k, 10k, 60 min, pushing the pace and intensity a bit.

fitness is decent, but of course, there's lots of room for improvement.

30 may

resting hr 50

erg x 14,000 mtr
71+ min

start lifting, again, keep it simple

deadlift 5x5x70 lbs
girl weight for starters

db bench 5x5x20 lb
hoping the db will be easier on the shoulders than a bar.

curls 4x10
because i'm a guy

planning on 3xweek, alternate dead and squat, with some kind of press. throw in some swings, dr rows, and pull-ups. the goal is to be consistent and just see what results are possible if i'm patient.

i'm considering getting a trap bar, which several smart people have recommended.

31 may

resting hr 47

erg 14k
72 mins

total for may: 343k meters
29 hours

put in some work on mcgill's back routine. i've got to get serious about addressing tight hip flexors (and tight everything else) and a weak core. in theory, stiffening my pillar should eliminate energy leaks, making me awesome in all endeavors.

box squat 5x5 x

based on what pl54 wrote, i'm alleging that i'm not weak, but rather my box squats constitute rehab,

bunch of curls and hammer curls
