Tue, July 30

Wed, July 31
40 push ups, 50 decline sit ups, 30 squats, 25 calf raises, 30 swings (35#), 15 pull ups, 1.5 mile run/walk

Thur, Aug 1
50 push ups, 50 ax-chop sit ups with 20#, 50 squats, 50 calf raises, 40 snatches (15#), 15 pull ups, 1.5 mile run/walk on the treadmill

Just trying to lay a foundation and maintain some consistency with something for once. My own program minimum, five days a week. Each exercise has a daily rep minimum, and I can hit it how and when I want. Feeling good, I do it all in one go. Feeling bad, I break it up through the day. My goals are 1) Stick to it, and 2) Double the daily minimum.

Good job buddy. I think the daily consistency will definitely help lay a mental and physical foundation for more training. Keep at it.

Oh, and for clarity's sake:

Daily Minimum, Five Days a Week
50 push ups
50 squats
50 sit ups
50 calf raises
30 swings
15 pull ups
1.5 miles

Anything above and beyond that will either contribute to doubling the daily minimum, or serve as a fun distraction on the weekends.

Do you bang it out in one set or multiple?
You`ll toughen up.Unless you have a serious medical condition commonly refered to as
"being a pussy".

Multiple sets, mostly. I'm closer to doing it all in one set with some exercises than others.

For example, in one good set I can usually do:
25 push ups
8-10 pull ups
25 sit ups
30 calf-raises
25-35 squats
20-30 swings

But I'm not trying to sweat that too much right now. Just trying to get it done each day. Ideally I'll be able to double the minimums in the future, at which point I hope to be doing most of these current minimums in one set.

Fri, Aug 9
Circuit, 5 rounds
10 swings
10 squats
10 push ups
10 straight-leg sit-ups
10 calf raises

Went at a relaxed pace, and the circuit was very easy. I could have done it twice.

Walk 1 mile
15 pull ups + twice across the monkey bars
10 step-ups each leg

I wanted to run, but even my walking didn't feel smooth and rhythmic today.

Sat, Aug 10
Nada

Sun, Aug 11
10 Hindu push ups + 40 push ups
50 H2H swings (35#, one set, pretty easy but felt good)
50 deck squats (one set at a relaxed pace; this counts as "squats" and "situps" for the day)
50 calf raises
15 pull ups

EDIT: It's Aug 12, and my upper back/traps and neck feel like they got a really good workout from all those deck squats. Totally unexpected.

Tue, Aug 13
50 squats (one set, started slow with great technique, finished at a brisk pace, breathing heavily)

50 sit-ups (one set, relaxed pace)
50 push ups
50 calf raises (one set on flat ground)
30 rows (55#, 15 reps l/r)

I'm not being as consistent as I had planned, but all of this stuff is getting easier quickly.

I've been enjoying waking up to a walk. I want to make it an every day habit, and get out of the phase where it feels like a chore, since it wakes me up and gets me ready for the day better than anything else.

Right now, the minimum still feels like a chore. Some days I really enjoy it, and I do it all at once. Other days it's all I can do to eke out half the minimum from morning to night. This whole thing is about learning to make better choices. I'm good at willing myself to do things I don't want to do, but only for brief periods. I'm better at doing things that are habitual, because will power isn't a factor. Consistency of good choices is how I'm approaching my health right now, which is part of why I've chosen such a simple and minimal routine. Obviously my willingness to actually fucking do the minimum hasn't been there every day, but I like the pressure of knowing that I get to decide whether to make the good choice again the next day, every day. I'll know I've made progress when I start hitting the minimum without really thinking about it.

My diet is shit, and I need a plan. Snapshots of my diet in the last week:
Pimento cheese and Ritz crackers
Bacon and fig jelly on a fried egg sandwich (white bread, yeah I said it)
Vegetable soup
Drink 2-3 beers, then win pint-chugging competition to break the trivia tie... x2
Caesar salad with salmon
Krystal burgers
Ezekiel bread scrambled egg sandwich w/Sriracha
Midnight Nutri-Grain binge, because weed

Bodyweight's around 210 lately. I think I'm about 20 pounds too fat at 5'11". Maybe 25.

Thursday, Aug 22
1.5 mile A.M. walk, 50 push ups, 60 squats, 15 pull ups, 30 swings (35#)

Squat technique is improving. I did a pause at the bottom of a lot of these, and the bottom of many looked like those "Asian squats." There's got to be a better name for those squats, right? Does this make me racist? Allegedly it's the way we evolved to squat down and release the Krappen, so maybe the name should involve shit somehow. Shit squats. The Turdish GetUp. Jon squats. Earth salutations. Brownie baker squats. The crap crouch. Porcelain pose. Bomber squats. The Royal Squat. Loaded squats. Feed the forest squats. Boom booms. Green apple splatters. Log squats. Lose a few pounds squats. Mud butt knee bends. Somebody take a poll.
