COME AND GET PAPPA BEAR!

Post by The Venerable Bogatir X » Tue Apr 12, 2016 7:50 pm

This is like, my 161st IGx Training Log, but the first in a long time.

Follow if you wish, much appreciated. If not, that is cool, too.

Partial knee replacement was done on 4/7 and I was out of the hospital on 4/8. Was provided a walker....used it once. Was told to buy a cane, used that twice. I've been a mad dog about my PT drills, icing, and using this passive motion machine that was Rx'd and delivered to my home....I have it for another three weeks but have already smashed my ROM goals without pain.

Saturday after surgery: 1/3 mile walk with walker
Sunday after surgery: 1/3 mile walk with cane
Monday after surgery: 1/3 mile walk...holding cane for 'just in case' but I walked on my own

Stairs: climbing and descending like a normal human, albeit not that quickly

Sleep: our gem of a PT Spiller suggested to me that I sleep with my cryocuff/aircast and it has made a noticeable difference in my ability to stay asleep vs. waking up in pain due to tossing and turning

Pain: I don't have a fraction of the pain I used to have.....the biggest issues are soreness from the cut at the surgical site and both hamstring tendons are on fire from relearning how to walk

Today was back to the gym and I did:

Cybex Chest Presses
Cybex Rows
GM
OHP with bar only
Rotational Med Ball to the wall for abz

I will do some curl and press along with stripper squats a bit later here at the house.

PT drills per usual.

Let's see where this goes, but so far, I am pretty damned thrilled that I got this done.

P.S. the reason why 1/3 mile has been my bogie is simply due to the fact that is the distance of the circle I live on. It takes some time, mostly due to neighbors asking how I am doing, ect. When I can do this somewhat 'briskly', I will do two laps, then three. I am thinking I will be at a solid mile brisk walk in a couple of weeks. I have a well-regarded Ortho and some other experienced cats in my corner plus I am thus far holding-up my end of the bargain, so my gut says this is going to go really well. Plus, now that I have a hunk of metal in me, I am part Terminator.

Wow, you're doing great. I could barely manage a third of a block a week after my lung surgery. Keep it up, but no need to push it.

Thursday and Friday: PT.....home and at PT's office

Saturday: took the family to the rodeo. Conservative estimate is about 4 miles of walking and that is very conservative.

Sunday: knee was screaming. Did about 45 min of heads down PT at the house

Monday; PT at the gym and the house throughout the day....pushed hard

Tuesday: easy PT throughout the day......gym and home. "Easy" still sucks, btw, it is just less overall reps and much longer pauses and more ice....was supposed to see PT today, but he had a conflict and had to push me back till tomorrow, which I was cool with that

EDIT: did a 1/3 mile walk tonight, too.

Wednesday:
PT at the PT office. Got some new stuff for the bag of tricks. Flex is at 116 which is excellent at this point. Straight leg I am at a 6 today, which is no good....I need to be at zero. I have some painful homework ahead of me before my next visit on Friday, but it will get done. I only have a few more weeks to get to zero, otherwise, I am stuck with a slight and permanent bend.

Also got the go ahead to hit upperbody harder as long as I am not doing any bracing with the leg at this juncture.

Friday: PT at home. Will do Airdyne EZ GTG throughout the day, too. Last night around 0300 my knee was screaming so I went to the couch and set up the passive motion doohickey and did that until 0600 (sleeping through some of it).

Best of luck with the knee! You never though of buying one of those sword in a cane or a walking cane with a gun inside? You can always use the knee as an excuse if someone wonders why you bought it.
You`ll toughen up.Unless you have a serious medical condition commonly refered to as
"being a pussy".

You are a Facebook pal, so you have seen the ugly and not so ugly pics.

I am more interested in the doctor's letter explaining why I need a crossbow for deer hunting than I am the sword cane, but I will take that too....do you think they make one that has a sword AND a liquor stash?

If they don`t,they should make canes like that.Fills 3 purposes:walking, fencing and liquid refreshment (maybe even 4,looking cool or odd depending on who`s watching)!

Monday morning, 5/2:

PT at PT office....

PT was like "damn, you're not walking, you're sauntering!" To which I replied, 'well I reckon I did live in Texas for 3 years'. PT session went very well and I got my extension down to a 4 from a 6 over the weekend and have every intention of getting to 3 or 2 by this Wednesday (I *must* get to zero if I want to walk completely normally). He is completely unconcerned about my flex at this point; started me squatting (BW) even, although he kept correcting me for going too deep at this stage which is kinda a LOL thing for me as I have always been a depth nazi, way back when I actually worked out. I don't use the cane anymore but do carry it around when I am not at the house, but will probably stop doing that soon, too. Not bad for 3.5 weeks post op.

Thanks. I totes credit my surgeon and my PT....I'm just doing what I am told to do (for a change).

I even 'jogged' for the kids in front of the house tonight. And by jog, I mean a little trot for about 40' there and 40'back.

Tue & Wed: PT at home....seems to be going fine, still.

Having some very disruptive knee pain while lying down which is killing sleep. I bit the bullet and went back on the Oxy just today.

Thu & Fri:

Thu: went to ortho for scheduled check-up. All is looking good and he says my extension is now 'better than 4'; feels completely confident I will be at a 0 by end of the month. I am, however, on a second round of antibiotics as the left foot is still slightly swollen and given that I have had Cellulitis a few years back, we agree to play it safe and went with that second round.

Fri: PT at home

Also:

-spoke with Rif the other day and got some good ideas and insights from him
-have not been using the cane anymore
-walk up and down stairs 'normally' (albeit slowly and holding onto a rail)
-have been lowering the seat on the Airdyne (which makes it tougher/greater ROM)
