BEERJEW FT. TERRYb

Post by Beer Jew » Thu Dec 29, 2016 12:48 pm

Time to sack up and start a new cycle. Last year was my most successful lifting year yet, adding nearly 200lbs to my total.

I finished the year with the following lifts - 220kg/140kg/260kg. 620kg Total, but I weigh a hyuuge 100kg.

Aim for the year is 240/155/280 for a 675kg total at 90kg.

Oh... and TerryB is training with me, so I'll be recording his training too.

Rebuilding the base. I'm fired up and super motivated. This year will be a dry run, next year I start competing again. It's difficult to figure out with all the Feds, but it looks like if I could hit my current total in competition, I'd be in the top 20 UK lifters in the U.K IPF affiliate for my weight class.

My goal for this year will be to build a base for next year, with the goal for next year being to build a total that puts me in the top ten lifters for my weight. The following year, I'd like to qualify for IPF worlds.

I genuinely believe if I can keep this motivation up, I can make it to IPF worlds In the next five years.

I need to figure out my deadlift once and for all. Everything I see tells me I should look more like the video I posted a while back of Tom Martin deadlifting. But I feel most comfortable and most powerful deadlifting like Misha Koklayeav. Sitting way down and squatting the weight up slowly, like he video I posted of my 260kg, even though that doesn't necessarily look like best practice.

OK fine. But what did TerryB do?

He met a bloke at the bus stop on the way in, and turned up twenty minutes late looking flustered and dazed. He must have had a yogurt as well because he left some around his mouth.

He proceeded to flirt with the bloke behind the desk for most of the session, although he did do some jumping jacks and side bends for fifteen minutes.

As a guy who spent a year avoiding the DL then another year trying to change it, my sense is to go with what feels right. Keep an eye on it, look for things to improve but don't change your fundamental pull. Do what works for you. I pull like KK, I would prefer not to but it flat out feels right and I don't get hurt pulling my way.

Cut carbs this week. Feeling like I'm dropping a lot of water weight, but no energy. Off on holiday on Tuesday for a week, no training. When I return, my new cycle begins.

Re-reading that, I mean on the positive side I feel like I'm dropping a lot of water weight, but on the negative side I have no energy after work, and I'm sleeping poorly.

On another positive side, I've been promoted at work for the third time in the last 18 months, and I'm currently on track to make Junior Partner next April, at the ripe old age of 27.

Thanks Shaf. I'll take a look. I'm midway through a 6 hour interview with Mike Zourdos and about to get on a flight so I'll finish it off then.

Have you read Mike Israetels book? I think it's called the principles of strength training...

Lol!

Back to it....

Bench:

110kg x 1, 120kg x 1
105kg x 8
105kg x 8
105kg x 8
105kg x 8

Deadlift:

220kg x 1
220kg x 1
220kg x 1

Squat:

150kg x 8
150kg x 8
150kg x 6
150kg x 5
150kg x 5

Squats were supposed to be 150 x 4 x 8. Not great but I got the volume done. Hopefully next week when my fitness is back up a little they'll feel better.

Deadlift:

200kg x 4
200kg x 4
200kg x 4
200kg x 4

Bench:

115kg x 4
115kg x 4
115kg x 4
115kg x 4

Training on Monday for the first time in a week meant I was sore as shit today. I was supposed to do another two sets each on bench and deadlift and then some accessories but no dice. At least I can build on the volume next week.
