2019.01.01AM; Happy New Year!

I took the family to Waimanalo for some body boarding, but unfortunately we were cut short by a box jellyfish warning. My son wasn't having any of that so, after trying Kaimana to the same effect, we bailed on it. At home I did this:

1. KB Swing x 40
2. DB Rear-Lateral-Front Raise Complex 3 x 8
3. DB Seesaw Press 3 x 8
4. DB Row 3 x 8
5. BB PTTP Curl 3 x 8
6. BW Lunges 3 x 10
7. Deadlift 3 x 8
8. Laputin Situps 2 x 10

...then finished up with an hour walk in the mountains.

2018.01.07PM; jiu-jitsu...walked to the academy, did an hour of drilling with some beginners, and then it was open mat.

One nice thing about the new place I'm training is that there's huge variety, so I got to do rounds with brand new white belts, a world champion brown belt, a complete stud black belt, and a hard as nails athletic blue belt. It's a great way to train because you have to use a variety of techniques and approaches.

I have been trying to go back to basics in terms of play, focusing mostly on getting to and using closed guard and classic tripod, foot-on-the-hips open guard. I find that these are the two that allow me to continuously attack, maintaining the initiative for a finish.

2019.01.08PM; jiu-jitsu...class was a series off a pass to knee on belly, then an armbar, and then a kimura off the armbar escape. Not my favorite series, but not lame either.

After that was rounds of sparring, including a couple with some big boys. I felt strong passing and smashed a big black belt who's competing in the Fight to Win promotion, so that was nice.

2019.01.15PM; jiu-jitsu...walked to class, which was triangle setups from closed guard, and then rounds. The depth on the mat was extreme, with 7 or 8 black belts, a couple of fire brown belts, etc.

There's also a new (i.e., from the mainland) blue belt that has champion-level abilities that are hard to believe. A couple of the guys are training for Fight 2 Win promotion, so the intensity was high.

I finished the night with a black belt, a huge Hawaiian, and a few more I can't even recall.

2019.01.31PM; I hit all my reps and numbers for January so I decided to switch gears this workout just for a refreshing change of pace. I fucked up my neck a bit which is why I've taken a couple weeks off jiu-jitsu, but "the plan" (ha!) for February will have me back at it, and I will drop the barbell training to two sessions a week.

1. Pushups x 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10
2. Lunges x 1/1, 2/2, 3/3, 4/4, 5/5, 6/6, 7/7, 8/8, 9/9, 10/10
3. KB One Arm Rows x 1/1, 2/2, 3/3, 4/4, 5/5, 6/6, 7/7, 8/8, 9/9, 10/10 @ 24 kg
4. KB Two Arm Swing x 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 @ 24 kg
5. Situps x 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10

Also, as an aside, all the calisthenic exercises were incredibly easy, even though I don't train them. I hardly broke a sweat. Proper exercise with barbells and dumbbells is better preparation for running, calisthenics, and martial arts than any method I am aware of.
