Oh crap. I just looked up the record for 80-84 age group in the marathon. The world record is held by a guy named Ed Whitlock. 3:15:54.

And I'll bet old Ed is built like a twig. You are not, so don't get crazy on this. You'll hurt yourself.
It sounds like hiking is serving you well, but that's not scaleable to running marathons.

LOL Give yourself a break, Tim.

Might I suggest the "Barkley Marathon"? Fifteen have finished since 1995.

OK: two week check-in:
Starting weight, March 1: 243.8
Weight May 13: 227
loss: 16.8 pounds or 6.9% of my starting body weight.
This puts my BMI at 29.95 (which means I am no longer obese according to the charts. Just overweight.)

I recently came across several peer-reviewed studies that suggest faster weight loss may preserve muscle, work better than the pound a week standard, and will be sustained longer. So I'm going to ramp it up a little.

Still walking two to four miles daily but putting in a few 20 to 30 second all out racewalking sprints. A little bit of HIIT.

I have not been able to stick with DDP Yoga. I plan to go back to simple bodyweight stuff I know and have done a lot before. Pushups, squats, crunches, plank.

Weight:
Starting March 1: 243
May 28: 225.5

I'm now down a size in my pants. Cleaned up the fat pants and gave them to our community free store. Burning the bridges behind me.

I'm on it.

As you may recall, the proposition changed and Oct. 31 is the new due date. But I'll put a push on and see if I can do it by July 31.

Then I'm going to take a month and hold at maintenance. That's always been the problem. Maintaining. I need some practice at maintaining.

After that, I need to go under 200. Why? Well, because as I near the goal of 210, I still feel I'm carrying too much weight. 210 used to a good walking around weight. But, as my lady friend pointed out, I may not be 6'1" anymore, not after 76 years of enduring gravity. And yes, I'm now 5'11" and a titch. 195 is about right.

This really sucks. I'm blaming her.

Yes, I forgot that we had adjusted the date in recognition of your shiftless and indolent nature.

Weight: 219.7
I'v been stuck at the 220 mark, more or less, all month. My goal for August is to drop solidly into the teens. Call it 215.

And lose 10 more pounds. Yes. I'm acutely aware of that.
