Bewildered Bram

I think part of my struggle in achieving my goals, is acting like I have achieved them.

I try a lot of shit, a lot of it isn’t helpful.

Maybe if I accept this, I’ll get in my own way less.

Spent the last couple of days wrestling with program design.

The leg program I’ve been doing has coincided with my best surfing performance, but it’s also been bugging my lower back.

I’d like to keep the good parts, eliminate things that may not be crucial, and restructure it to reduce joint stress.

A two-day leg split seems like one possible way to approach this.

Monday, November 16th: Legs 1

Glute Bridge w/ Alt. Leg Extensions x 15 each x 4 sets
And
2-Up, 1-Down Calf Raise x 15 each x 4 sets

Box Pistols x 15 each x 4 sets
And
Wall Leaning Shin Raises x 20 x 4 sets

Slow Front Kicks x 20 each x 4 sets
And
Nordic Ham Curls x 10 x 4 sets

Power Band TKE - Green x 20 each x 4 sets PR
and
Power Band Good Morning - Green x 20, Green + Purple x 20, 20, 15

Stretch Calves, Hip Flexors, Quads, Abductors, Adductors, Hamstrings

Tuesday, November 17th: Surfing

Surfing 45 minutes

Upsides: left posterior shoulder felt good from the extra rotator cuff exercises, increased neck rotation ROM

Downsides: legs felt “heavy,” legs had decreased responsiveness, left medial knee felt sore

——

Maybe ditch the single-leg presses in the last leg workout and replace them with straight-leg glute extensions, e.g., slow back kicks

Slow Back Kicks x 20 each x 4 sets

——

Listening to an interview with chess Grandmaster Maurice Ashley.

1) Talks about how talking trash in chess is an extension of flow. For me this would be friendly banter & commentary — “what’s up, playing chess,” or “here come the knights, yeeew.”

Perhaps focusing on things that magnify my personality might carry over to a better flow state in surfing?

2) Talks about leaving his first chess club, with high-level players, to play at other clubs and face Grandmasters, because his goal was to beat Grandmasters.

I definitely surf left’s way too often currently because I’m more competent on them. If I really want to improve I need to seek out and surf high-level right’s on a regular basis.

——

After more thinking, am gonna next try dividing my original super-surfing leg workout into two workouts, ditching none of the exercises, but doubling the work sets on everything aka 8 exercises x 4 sets x 2 workouts vs 16 exercises x 2 sets x 1 workout...

Power Band Ankle Eversion - Red x 20 each x 4 sets
And
Power Band Ankle Inversion - Yellow x 20 each x 4 sets

Band 1-Leg Hip Internal Rotation 20lbs x 20 each x 4 sets
And
Band 1-Leg Hip External Rotation 20lbs x 20 each x 4 sets
