Jumpstart this log...

Crossfit-ish stuff for 3+ years. Stopped climbing 2 years back after climbing partner broke leg in too many places.

Ride bike to work daily, 25 minutes on hilly route each way.

Spent the last two+ weeks not "working out", instead building massive stone patio in backyard. Hunt down stones at construction sites, load into truck, bring home, unload, and position. Picking stones that are either 1RM or more (using pry bar and all manners of leverage for the really HMFs). Focus is on moving stones, not lifting. Couple hours each day after work. Result? Slimmer, heavier and stronger. Interesting...

About 3 mile beach run, with 20 burpees thrown in at the turn point. About 25 minutes.

What kind of bike do you have? Full suspension or classic hardtail? I love to ride but can only fit it in about once a month or two. Need to make time for it.

Hardtail, a brand new Specialized Rockhopper. Disc brakes and all that. I couldn't justify the full suspension, as I climb on dirt roads as much as anything else, and a hardtail is more efficient for that. Passed my 22 year old Jamis on to my son.

I live in an area which is polluted with excellent trails. Ride to work if it's not raining....which leads to...

2 x 25 minutes hill ride, about half single track.

Damn I miss riding, used to do it twice a week with some friends after work. All my riding buddies left the office. I wound up breaking my leg shortly thereafter, never got back into it. Good fun.

You do a hell of a lot of running, how much do you weigh? Any knee/back problems?

I love to run, especially trails and hills. I'm a Clydesdale by runner's standards (6'3", 215 LBs). Surprisingly, no knee problems. Back problems, but they're from lifting and old age.

I find there's fitness, and then there's toughness. It took a long time before my joints were tough enough to go 3-4 miles/day day in and day out.

About 4 miles, some on trails, with 100 burpees mixed in, sets of 10.
51 minutes. Burpees done with controlled stand-up (not spring).

Thought back was going to lock up this morning, feels great this afternoon. Huh.

Beeyootiful day, 60's, leaves turning, so...

2+00 mountain bike ride. The Gap, 1100' el. gain all single track, very rocky, many fewer dabs then last time.

Right side back very tight now. Naproxen and beer chaser. Ice.

Why not give that back a week's rest? We're roughly same size, give or take an inch in height, guys our size(and age) have touchy backs, or so my back breaker used to tell me.

I find that the worst thing for my back is rest. Activity makes all the difference in the world. I overdid it today of course, but it was worth it. Great day in the woods. Actually, it feels pretty good now after 3 glasses of wine.

I'm off the see the PT in the very near future. There are structural issues I need to address.

Good luck with yours. It sucks to get old. Period.

Yesterday:
Traveling...20 burpees in hotel room to get rid of cobwebs.

Today:
Warmup 20 burpees and about 2 minutes of jumping jacks
20 x 3 pullups/6 pushups/9 bodyweight squats

Ice the back. Feels great! Keep the stretching going. Off to the football game. Go Lions.

About 5 miles on hill course. 41 minutes.

Felt great. Kept stride up hills, pushed through oxygen debt on backsides.

Finished off with 10 press/10 push press/10 push jerk with 45 LB DBs.

Light day. Ran to local hill, and then did 5 sprints up the hill. Walked/jogged down each time. Nice little lactic acid bath.

Standard 4-5 mile route, with 100 burpees mixed in, in sets of 15-20 during the first two miles. Did another set of 20 just before finishing for a total of 120.

Yesterday, rode bike to and from work. 50 minutes total riding on hill route.

Heh. I've got dust on my gym member ship card at the moment. I'm just in that running mood...it'll change when the weather starts sucking.
